With Thanet Labour having recently spent much of their energies horse trading, in a move which apart from costing the public Ten thousand pounds in services, has resulted in little benefit unless you happen to be in Clive Hart's Cabinet or indeed the smalll group of Independently minded councillors knows as TIG who are in receipt of generous allowances.
Still tonight's local news on BBC's South East Today, gives Clive Hart the opportunity to show what he's made of, Labour Councillor Mike Harrison appeared prominently and not in the best light, the story introduced by presenters Rob Smith and Polly Evans relaxing the usual smiley faces and switching to stern faces normally reserved for disaster, tragedy, crime and budgets as once again Mike Harrison is alleged have made unfortunate comments, this time accused of homophobia on facebook.
Homophobia has become, a topic of near hysteria in some circles in Thanet, ever since Sir Roger Gale MP, took a stand on same sex marriage, clearly the accusations are serious and it would now be expected that Cllr Mike Harrison should stand down from the Labour group until his name is cleared, and if he doesn't then Cllr. Clive Hart should insist, if this doesn't happen then it would of course render any statements of Thanet Labour toward belief in equality.
For what it's worth I don't think that homophobia exists in Thanet, I'm sure most would agree, irrespective I imagine most of us whatever our circumstances, are preoccupied with jobs, homes our own lives and family and friends too busy for petty nastiness.
If Labour are fit to govern then, they need to do the right thing and if Cllr Harrison doesn't stand down from Labour until this issue is resolved, then he should be suspended from the group.

Labourphobia still exists in Thanet too.
ReplyDelete8:11's comment is so typical of Labour mentallity. Shout from the rafters and demand inquiries into every perceived Tory indiscretion, but accuse a Labour councillor of something and, hey presto, we have Labourphobia.
ReplyDeleteWhether the worthy councillor is guilty or not, it remains a fact that Labour and their TIG sidekicks have recently made much of so called Tory homophobia. Everyone from our North Thanet MP to people who are concerned about same sex marriage on religious grounds, have been so labled. They must, therefore, demonstrate good faith and an even handed approach by suspending Cllr Harrison until this matter is properly investigated.
Mind you, in the high tech sinister world of Thanet politics and use of blogs, Twitter and Facebook, anything is possible. Quite obviously here some nasty Tory hacked into Mike's account, like you do, and wrote something beastly to discredit him. And if you believe that, then I went to Hogwarts and you have fairies in your garden.
Where is our new Diversity Cabinet advisor, now that Labour appear to have trnsgressed, will he have something to say, or send in a 2hit squad" of Diversity Wardens?
ReplyDeleteor will he do what he always doesmake himself scarce, as he did last night in the Birchington Parish Council rather than face residents
I think it must be another of those finger trouble multi tasking postings that Thanet's councillor are so good at. We all know how difficult some people find these Ipad and smart phones to use.
ReplyDeleteAll these ism's & obia's need to be abolished it was only designed inorder to divide & rule through differences.
ReplyDeleteNone of the parties are fit to govern without compulsory lie defector testing being carried out before elections to ensure the right caliber of person is selected.
So 11:28, as long as you don't lie, you can be as thick as two short planks, but still fit to govern.
ReplyDeleteHere is Worrow our equality and Diversity Champion, is it because it is Labour that it is OK, shame on you Worrow let us all see a bit of courage and integrity from you
ReplyDeleteanon 12.42
ReplyDeleteThought being thick came with the territory ?
Being thick is not a crime lying whilst in public office should be.
Worrow is proving that what he really cares about is being anti-Tory, not anti-Homophobia.
ReplyDeleteAnti Tory is good.
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to the witty blogging debates of a while back. Is it a result of apathy towards governance, but suddenly the ether seems fall of mindless bigots or weird theory exponents. The occassional voice of reason now gets shouted down by the rest.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the emergence of TIG politics has dumbed us all down to the bandwaggoning sensationalist level with substance but a distant dream. Somebody stands on a box, opens the lipless orifice in their boat that passes for a mouth and shouts utter drivel about a problem we never knew existed, and very probably doesn't. Mind numbing to say the least.
Who really knows, but it is all pretty boring and when you get to witty one liners like 'anti-Tory is good' it is perhaps time to head for the hills.
To be fair I wasn't exactly wetting myself with laughter over your contribution either 10:37.
ReplyDeletefair point 10:37 so here's a question: what is happening with the Thor mercury cleanup?
ReplyDeleteHeading for the hills is good.
ReplyDeleteComes to something when one of the few to contribute more than a one liner is our old friend Peter. At least he had something to contribute to the debate rather than a one line throw away.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I rather enjoyed 10:37's contribution although I don't quite get the thing about not making 12:41 wet himself. I thought it more a sad comment on the state of blogging, which is hardly a laughing matter. On the other hand, it could be a protate problem and, if so Anon, I apologise.
At least it rather proved its point being promptly followed by a trio fairly witless contributions.
Come on almanack Tony, get up to speed, tories another man down,
