Away from it all

I'd like to say that I'm all blogged out, that I have had bigger fish to fry, not true, or that I'd been away on some exotic holiday but the truth is that for the last week or so I've mainly spent my spare time watching the Olympics .

For a lot of us real world issues have been suspended to marvel at the Olympics, it's Friday afternoon as I start this posting and it might well be some time Sunday when complete, yesterday as talk of the legacy ramped up a tad, even the sky box appeared to suffer a minor stroke.

Olympic fatigued has yet to set in here at Flaig mansions,  what a fortnight it has been, the cycling for me has been the best, particularly Bradley Wiggins, still something which was shared it seems by all those in team GB the simple British trait of honest hard work, a characteristic frequently dismissed by those who should know better.

Without exception athletes talented enough to represent Britain, have appeared happy to be part of the British nation and why not, just before these Olympics I read an article suggesting this years event might be the last prior to Scottish independence, as well as the disappearance of our British flag of course it may well be true since once again a minority of us Brits will get to decide.

I just hope the success of team GB will be a graphic argument for those such as Alex Salmond who wish to destroy the British nation. Sorry for the negative, political point at the end of this post but sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

  1. Nice to see so many different races and cultures representing our country, multi-culturism at it's finest (but please, can we have a big event without Paul McCartney, Gary Barlow and The Queen?).

    1. Which Queen was that, Peter, for I think the real one sent her grandson along. Perhaps you were referring to one of the several others who can lay claim to that title?

Agree with you about Paul McCartney who is well overdue for his bus pass, but bit harsh on Gary Barlow who did well to turn out after his recent sad loss.

Also think you miss the point on multiculturalism. When people of many different racial backgrounds come together under one flag to represent their nation, that is multiracial. Multicultural is where they live in the same country, but all retain the customs and cultures, some even loyalties, of their origins. That ain't good for it leads to division.

    2. Where is your respect? We are lucky to have our queen.
I am also proud to have been born to see "Queen" best group ever, nothing and no one will ever top the quality of their music. Having their music right at the end of the Ceremony Sunday evening was the topping on a wonderful experience.

  3. You're such a wag, aren't you, Tom Clarke? You know all the saucy words that refer to gay or camp people and then you use them in this light-hearted and seaside-postcard fashion. I would love to know what one might find beneath your veneer.

Your contributions do fit better with the divisive, muck-raking, suggestive gutter politics promoted over on Thanet Life, though.

    1. You are obviously obsessed with some notions of homophobia so no prizes for guessing who you are. My response to Peter was more about the confusion between multi-racial and multi-cultural, but you would pick on the queen bit. Whatever, your time is coming fast now.

    2. Even I didn't pick up on the "Queen = homosexual" thing, though I guess I'm not as obsessed with sex as some of the loony left.

My original comment was meant slightly tongue-in-cheek anyway, as I don't really have a problem with Queenie, Macca or Gary (or other cultures).

      Peace! : )

    3. Isn't it time you all accepted the fact the gay community have now come out. We have to accept this fact whether we like it or not, just get on with it and stop being a pain in the butt.

    4. The gay community is in itself a contradiction in terms. Personally I, and I suspect many others as well, could not give a fig leaf whether they have come out or not, but why do they have to be so touchy about it. If some of our local examples are in anyway typical, say like John Worrow, they are far from gay, but perpetually looking to take offence at almost any remark from anyone who is normal (or should that be straight).

    5. Why don't you grow up, it's as though gays have only just been found, accept the fact as they will not go away

    6. I think it is the over touchy gays that need to grow up. I suppose you applaud comments like that of Elton John to the lady photographers wishing cancer of the clitoris on them. Nice man and clearly not as spiteful as the local councillor's answer phone message that the pink comminunity got so uptight about. Frankly the lot of you make me throw up with your double standards.

    7. No need to worry 18:28 for ultimately they will emulate the crikey bird and disappear you know where.

  5. Well put Tony I have been engrossed in the sport and must say I am now a bit lost with NORMAL TV I am not sure the Scots will go for indepenence, or maybe that is hope rather than any grounded facts.

    1. Disbanding the Argyle & Sutherlands does nothing to help the cause of union, but then, perhaps that is the idea. Get rid of Scotland and Labour lose fifty seats at Westminster not to mention many of their leading talents. Could be a Tory plot as most things seem to be around the Thanet blogsites.

  6. You know "Tom Clarke", you must have a little blue book of stock answers to deploy when you are challenged - all common to you and the political right-wing, all predictable, all based on the "I know best" syndrome, and all diversionary. I haven't even mentioned the word "homophobia". I think it's you, and those who think like you, who have the obsession with the subject. I am focussed more on showing respect to others and applying full equality - rather than your practice of hiding goodness knows what behind spiteful, school-playground-like snipes. I shall leave you to titter in the corner at yout puerile jibes.

As for your last-sentence threat, spit out precisely what you mean, or shut up.

  7. Anon, it was you that kicked off about my saucy words for gay or camp people thus bringing sexual orientation into the equation as, of course, was and always is your intention.

As for all this nonsense about equality, what exactly is that supposed to mean. We do not start in life equal and will spend our lifetime unequal to others in some respect. You surely do not subsctibe to the illusion that you are as good as the next man. Get used to it, for quite often you are not and that applies much for me as for you.

Nice of you to tell me to shup up, but I could equally ask how you propose to make that happen. All I was implying was that this constant attack on people around the Thanet blogs for apparent homophobia, inequality if you prefer, is becoming a bit tiresome and losing its support.

Incredibly how you can pick up on a playful exchange between Peter and I and turn it into spiteful-playground-like-snipes hiding some dark motive. If anyone is obsessional it is you old fruit, not I.

  8. The "shut up" related solely to your little threat,"Tom Clarke", nothing more. But let's not bore everyone with another pointless spat that will go nowhere. We have very different ideologies, beliefs and principles. Enough said. There are more important things to consider, including the good news that has embraced the UK over the past couple of weeks.

    1. Now you are talking for it was indeed a couple of weeks of good news rather than the usual gloom over the economy. I also enjoyed the closing ceremony which radiated an atmosphere of happiness. Let's hope the much talked of legacy does actually materialise.

  10. If anyone is offended by a particular advert do let me know and I can block it, however assuming this add is not offensive I shall leave it alone.

I once found an add for a crank religion (one of those hollywood types love) I didn't copy the Url at time but then the add never came up again.
