Manston Airport - Property developers announce the Future- Again?

The new announcement of yet another deal at Manston Airport, could be seen as a master stroke maybe, for Anne Gloag to overwhelm local democracy, as a new company and a vague sketchy planning deal, that has yet to be scrutinised by authorities, was revealed with the full PR treatment, swallowed by bods such as the beeb and local media.

At this stage to me, the plans by Trevor Cartner and Chris Musgrave are every bit as credible in my opinion as those for "Chinagate" Mr Musgrave is indeed quoted by Kent Online "Whilst it is too early to be specific about our plans, we will be looking to comprehensively redevelop the whole site to create a mixed-use community.

Wouldn't it be great if a property developer could one day be quoted, with something like this " We've got our clutches on a parcel of otherwise worthless land, and it's looking good because the local council is run by a coalition of two-faced councillors and officers who are pretty hopeless with no respect for residents, with a little bit of luck we'll build cheap as chips slums and make a packet. (FORTUNATELY ! Thanet is renown for open dealings in all public matters and as we all know local planning authorities, always upholds the local public's interest)

As I see it this changes nothing,  ask the question what's new?     Er Nothing not even the appearance of a labour Councillor on BBC South East, who when recently removed from the "Cabinet" immediately resigned from Labour and then after a short period decided to rejoin probably as he pondered his prospects as an unpopular independent candidate or unpopular Labour candidate in next years council election.

Like a lot of these planning PR events we can confidently expect jobs jobs jobs .... which I think in this instance are four something four, four hundred, four thousand, four hundred thousand, whatever, still this changes nothing, do we really want a shabby new town on the outskirts of Thanet, if anything this makes the Airport option even more appealing and just as viable.

PS Further interesting stuff from Louise Oldfield

  1. One of your best posts yet Tony. Like SMa and Ukip you're struggling to explain an airport.

Interesting Gale is a shateholder and what the sale price was. Only a few grand made at the auction of Manston junk.

The dumped jets should be removed and runway ripped up to stop aquifer pollution or not?

  2. Paul Carter on BBC said only 1000 jobs created at Discovery Park and presumably less if existing thanet businesses not included or punlic sector. 200? 500?

  3. It does sound like chinagate warehouses or the third town centre housing estate nonsense. Just speculative landfill. A turnip field would be more profitable

  4. Just what we need a sea of tarmac and concrete and homes for jobless wasters from London.

  5. Now there is a surprise, Highland Global Transport trying to distance themselves from the deal and the bad publicity. Even the press have fallen for the "airport has been sold" line, when it hasn't. I wonder where the money came from.

I bet the initial phases will all be houses, which will lay the foundations for the whole lot.

  6. Sold for $1 again and promises of funds etc from a desperate set of councils?

15 years of kcc regeneration has made things worse Carter must step down with Iris and Bayford

  7. Why hasn't ukip spoken up after supporting the cpo? Flogging a dead horse? Farage has disappeared after gaining the candidacy...

  8. Suppose a company said to you, "Take a legal action against Mr Multimillions and we will indemnify you of all cost and risk sign here."

Mt Multimillions instructs Mr Smarmy the barrister who wipes the floor with your case. You lose and then to the costs hearing. Who does the Judge make the costs order against ? You or your third party indemnifier? Yes against you.

You phone your indemnity parter "Oh yeah mate" he says "We laid it off with a specialist indemnity insurer now let me see yep ESSEFFPEE Indeminity insurers of Suffolk. When they pay us we pay you. You might have to stump up yer own money to keep the court off yer back but tell you what wait for us to get back to you on it OK"

And you thought Iris would fall for it ?? She played a blinder so far. Now she awaits the legal advice about a compliance policy for statutory duties of Terrorism Act 2000 and it could get interesting at TDC and for the North Thanet MP (with a fair wind). But has Iris got the bottle ?

  9. No 11:33 he simply dismisses Grant Shapps' appearance - Farage has never explained why and how he and UKIP support Manston.

He seems as empty as Shapps and Iris.

  10. Well that's UKIP, Tory and Labour out the way. Who do you suggest we vote for?

  12. It's great news for the Manston site. I'd like to see the new properties go to hard working eastern European migrants who work in local agriculture. The developers could even call it New Warsaw.

Free Market Capitalism in action: a joy to behold!

  13. Questions need to be asked of TDC and Gale about the contamination at Manston and Thor that have been deliberately ignored or covered up. SMA are now citing the pollution as a reason for not having the housing but an airport(!).

    1. Seems a valid point, I remain a liberal by the way, but along with many in other parties, I would certainly relish the chance to have an honest debate and consultation with the EU to see what if any benefits exist in our relationship, so that I and other UK citizens could then decide on continuing out relationship or not

    2. Then what are Cunningham and the Libdems playing at. Its blatantly illegal. He should stand down or be fined and jailed.

He could explain the EU benefits to you as a Eurocrat. Why is dealing with Taiwan an EU need?
