Half cock Thanet council plumbs new low

Life is not as clear cut as it once was, and the sight of a cross-dresser, emerging briskly from the gents toilets in Ramsgate's Cavendish St. was hardly a shock, particularly not here in Thanet, given that even our councillors are clearly comfortable with their sexuality, still the authenticity was remarkable.

On entering the toilet, I realised my mistake,  the urinal had been hastily segregated, with a plastic barrier, and above a note from the council stated  this "GENTLEMEN" "PLEASE USE CUBICLES ONLY TOILET IS FOR UNISEX USE" until leaving the toilet, I had the weird thought,  that maybe Thanet council were acting on some EU directive, perhaps a crazy harmonisation policy with the continentals, as per the French with their more basic standards.

Exiting the toilet there's a couple of scrappy notices one clarifying the situation "LADIES TOILET IS CLOSED FOR REPAIR PLEASE USE GENTS AS UNISEX TOILET" the other a duplicate of previous mentioned.

Once the penny dropped that despite Council Leader, Clive Hart's assertions that Thanet was somehow better under Labour, I realised that nothing could be further from the truth, even I suspect with his humble beginings, sharing a public toilet not designed for unisex use, is the pits and  a bit third world.

A mark of civilisation is sanitation and frankly Thanet council not being able to offer adequate toilet facilities is plumbing new depths which even the Tories didn't reach.  However right-on Clive Hart and his Labour comrades might be, I'm sure that most of us, would agree that it is shameful to expect women to share toilets with men, when they have not be designed for such a purpose.

I cannot help thinking the money spent on extra jobs to councillors is money down the drain and would have been better spent on sanitation.  I've often thought Labour were taking the pee and now I know.

My cat Missey has higher standards than Thanet Council.

  1. Presumably you haven't walked or cycled along Westgate seafront in the winter for a few years: for a lonbg time now the ladies toilets have been for unisex use during the out of season period (while the mens is boarded up), something that started under the Ezekiel era.

    1. I'm sure Tony will still blame Labour 20:34.

  2. It was closed for repair! Would you prefer it that women had nowhere to go during this short period Tony?

    1. Instead of p"ssing money away on jobs for the boys such as those fellow councillors who will vote to keep Labour they could have spent the money on temporary toilets.

Clearly your boss Labour couldn't arrange a piss up in brewery

    2. But you're ok with the Tories making our toilets unisex for several months per year instead of just a few days?

    3. Come on 21:09, they needed to get money for dodgy housing deals somewhere!

  4. Ever been to a toilet on a train then Tony? What a very daft moan this is, it just looks like spite.

  6. Personally I'm always a bit suspicious of middle-aged men in public toilets and feel far more comfortable if there's women around.

    1. 'Miranda' and 'Mr. Eddy' had been keen cottagers in their respective rises to infamy.

It seems to have been a pre-requisite for a top job in English politics.

  7. Why use the public toilets when you can use Gerry's Coffee Bar?

    1. Or McDonalds.

Not a luxury the people on Westgate seafront have, not that Tony cares because it was a Tory decision.

  8. Tony, sure there's more pressing issues you can blog about? You're becoming a laughing stock.

    1. Actually I think it is quite an important issue to comment on. Surely it is things like public toilets that efffect the quality of local life and fall within the remit of the local council.

All too often, and elsewhere, folk write reams about flood risks to derelict buildings sites or the prospects of some Militant Lefty becoming a county councillor. That is laughable but standing at the urinal with ladies passing through is not. That is more likely to have you pi**ing on your toe caps.

    2. ... which is why there was a sign there saying that the urinals were closed and that people should use cubicles.

Yes it is important, but to Tony it's ONLY important if he can blame Labour.

    3. Bit unfair, 10:23, for over the years Tony has often attacked the Tories locally, at KCC and nationally. You are obviously a bit sensitive about criticism of Labour but, with office comes both responbsibility and criticism when you screw up. If one cannot live with that then one should not be in charge.

    4. Does rent-a-gob Clarke comment on every item in every Thanet blog? These sad pensioners should get out more.

    5. Nope, 1:29 (missing the old beauty sleep again I see), only here, Thanetonline, Thanet Press releases and Thanet Life as a general rule plus the odd rare comment elsewhere. Unlike you I do not sit up staring into the screeen in the small hours trying to dream up some gem of wit to lighten the darkness of my fellow man. Sadly, if that was your aim, you seem to have failed.

By the way, who said I was a pensioner and what exactly is your definition of such?

  9. So elsewhere we have the "Loony Left" and here, now we have the Ranting and Ricidulous Right. Good to see that the blogging rent-a-gob Tom Clarke is now spreading his contributions here. It'll be John Holyer, Ren Wood, and John Hamilton next.

    1. And your point is, 13:25, or is your comment what is supposed to pass for debate in your book.

    2. The point being you're an idiot Allan along with your chumps and your empty comment proves it.

With the toilets, none of the parties has been able to improve them: easier for the civil servants to board them up and distribute the tax on salaries and pensions.

If they can't repair public facilities then surely zero tax is fairer and sack them.

    3. Why doesn't Tony speak up on the zero% salaries and his best friend Moores, that's money down the toilet

    4. I see that frustrated creature who was dumped by a fighter pilot is on the bile trail again. Tony, Allan, Tom, Moores, they are all idiots compared with this brain with answers to everything yet does not know the difference between civil servants and local government officers.
