Thanet Council indulges the Left-Wing illusion

Labour since taking office has indulged itself, so far, in all manner of politically correct, gestures, the latest and perhaps most senseless indulgence is TDC's Equality Policy, basically Thanet Council are consult us, comrade's on our views as to the council complying with not just the law but also the spirit of the law as it effects equality.

I realise that to our Labour friends, this might all sound like a novelty, particularly given Labour's class ridden structure but here's my view, as a resident I expect Thanet Council to accept and comply with law, without wasting officer time, or even their own, on ridiculous PR nonsense such as this, most people in Thanet outside of Labour's leadership would expect people to be treated fairly and honestly by the council.

Anyway if you'd like to know more, click here for TDC's press release, although fairly innocuous, I must take issue with this quote from Chief Executive, Sue McGonigal, “The council takes equality very seriously and is committed to ensuring that all Thanet residents are treated fairly with dignity and respect and have access to the same opportunities. We believe that everyone is entitled to receive high quality services and we will actively challenge any prejudice or discrimination.

Yes, the chief exec, talks the talk but I cast my mind back to last July when attending a public meeting of  the council cabinet I experienced intimidating behaviour of council staff while taking notes, resulting in me having to leave a public meeting, I wrote to Sue McGonical, who eventually delegated a response, instructing Glenn Back (Democratic Services & Scrutiny Manager) to reply and although  phrase "sorry if you felt intimidated by the actions of the Council’s security staff" seemed conciliatory, it didn't specifically apologise for the councils behaviour, or "over-zealous" securtiy staff.

You reader may, think I'm being a bit pedantic and you might have a point but then this occurred after having been prevented on several occasions, from either accessing the public meetings or leaving, still at least in the past, the previous chief exec had the courtesy to reply.

Pity Labour can't focus on the local economy, like Council Leader Clive Hart, quoting purdah, as reason he can't comment on the wonderful opportunity KLM has delivered to us here in Thanet, maybe we could have a consultation on a lack business acumen of he and his colleagues.

Finally Labour, likes to foster the illusion, that we, those of us, who don't blindly follow the Labour hierarchy are without a social conscience and or lack the innate ability to distinguish what is inherently right.

  1. All right thinking people should read the draft document and then complete the survey as honestly as possible. This might then steer the council back on track and away from leftish views.

    3. Its ok that Zita Wiltshire has joined UKIP, despite being elected as a Tory, because she is heterosexual.

Bob Bayford demanded that Cllr Worrow call a by-election because he had the cheek to ask for equality YET never called for ex-Cllr Ezekiel to resign. So its ok joining UKIP or being a criminal as long as you don't ask for equal rights for gays

    4. I thought that Worrow had resigned in a flurry of publicity and then once the BBC had done their piece sort of forgot about it, presumably leaving his constituents in limbo?

Well I suppose just like Labour, the Tories can be as slippery as their Labour counter parts, no surprise that you own Labour homophobe was not penalised nor did you call for Ian Driver to resign even rewarding him ?

    5. You are wrong Tony. Cllr Harrison, apologised, unlike Ken Gregory, who dialled a mobile to wish AIDS on someone. Talking about someone on facebook calling them a shirt lifter is not nice, but its not a direct death wish and most importantly he showed remorse... if you don't know the difference you are not a real Lib Dem

Says no nothing Labour supporter 9 37, yes of course democracy and freedom to report are nothing quite as important as the current stalinist propaganda of the Labour party but hey I consider tinpot tyrants such as your self and indeed public employees should respect and uphold such freedoms as reporting the council.

Still such twisted thinking as yours sits well with the current looney tunes background in which, Labour and the leftwing media as promoted by the BBC have lost the plot, promoting the idea that workshy yokels which I think includes many leftwing activists such as you, should continue to bleed working people dry in perpetuity, viewing with distain the idea that unemployed layabouts should suffer a drop in living standards similar to those suffered by normal poeple

  3. You've become as barking mad as the wild conspiracy theorists who occasionally visit your increasingly laughable blog. Whether the subject is Deal Barracks or your alleged Labour/BBC/press (plus anyone else you hate) "alignment", the impact is exactly the same. And i wonder what qualifies you to be able to distinguish between "unemployed layabouts" and "normal people". Are all the unemployed layabouts? Are all the disabled deserving. Liberal Democrat, my arse.

    1. Anon, 10:57, not sure why you finished your rant with 'my arse.' Are you trying to tell us all something, maybe part of your beloved Labour's Equality policy or was it an exclamation arising out of a sudden pain.

Personally, I felt Tony's post is a very reasonable summary of TDC performance under Labour and shows how they are so obsessed with national issues they completely forget what they are supposed to be doing. They are a local council, dustbins, public loos and all that, not equal marriage and climate change. Leave that for the big players.

  4. Try reading, my comments and don't fill in the gaps, with left wing fantasy. There are clearly unemployed layabouts however many of us will be or have been unemployed at some point and will take any work we can get, and yes desabled people are deserving of whatever a civilised society can offer.

10 57 you don't get out often do you? I've come across a few unemployed layabouts in my time, you know from those who have no wish to be inconvenienced by getting up in the morning or make the lifestyle choice, or just too busy abusing drugs.

Anyway enough of me justify myself, perhaps if you're too shy to announce yourself you'd like to email my contact details and we could have a civilised conversation.

Frankly it's more than tiresome havingf some anonymous muppet such as yourself holding me to account and hiding behind a smoke screen.

  5. I have tried reasoned, reasonable and moderate open debate with you on other subjects, Mr Flaig, Manston's future most recently. Your response to my hope that Manston will thrive, but that it needs to do so in balance with local environmental needs was to call me a "reasonable enviro-craz[y]".

And you seriously think you are capable of a civilised conversation with anyone? Unless they subscribe to your singular, ill-informed dogma, and your illiberal, sweeping attacks on various sections of society, they will attract only boorish insults from you. So forgive me if I pass on your offer of an off-blog exchange.

Of course there are unemployed people who really don't want to work, and they should not be supported through the welfare system. But identifying them is not always as easy as you might think. Have you identified any and reported them to the authorities?Similarly, there are people in jobs who do not work as hard as their colleagues. As a matter of interest, do you "put your money where your mouth" and routinely report on any you know to your managers and push for action to be taken?

  11. Since this post is about a Labour local council which is rapidily resurrecting memories of some of the most loony left councils of yesterday in this country, it is very hard to say anything positive.

Sadly, this administration, having somewhat fortuitously for them, been given the opportunity of showing us what they could do by a defection, seem hell bent on maximising left wing propoganda about national issues rather than concentrating on those matters that are the responsibility of a local district council.

You only have to look at the Thanet Labour blogsite and it is one pronouncement after another condemning central government policy, but virtually nothing for the betterment of Thanet. You can tell how exciting it is for everybody in that 9 postings out of 10 do not attract a single comment. At least Tony gets up folks noses thus provoking lively debate.

What pray tell me has Equality or Climate got to do with running a little seaside council responsible for dustbins and loos. Can TDC really influence such matters and, apart from the Diversity Champion, who used to be Grey before he was a Tory and before he became Diversely independent, who cares. I am more concerned about them wasting all our taxes on a no hoper animal export ban at Ramsgate Harbour. Mind you, when you are dependent on the votes of turncoats to stay in power, I guess you have to pay the price. I object to them doing so with my money.

You need to realise that we are not all obsessed with our sexuality or, seemingly, feeling guilty about it. People are different. Some would only have sex in the privacy of their home whilst others will happily have a romp in a public park. Some look at adult websites whilst others could not be bothered.

We need to learn to live with our differences and not keep harping on about them.

'Under your council’s code of conduct you must act in conformity with the Seven Principles of Public Life.
One of these is the principle of integrity – that Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships.’

  13. Has anybody bothered to read the Equality Policy? I have, and have completed the survey. Without revealing all my answers let's just say that I told them to spend their money on more useful projects rather than pander to Harriet Harmen and her ilk. The policy is Labour claptrap and if only the values of our past were instilled in future generations such a policy would be unnecessary. It is a sneaks charter.

  16. Leaving aside your rather unfunny - and quite wrong - inference that gays are not normal, Anon 22.09, your observation is comical. Most of your fellow conspiracy theorists are wandering around local blogs fretting about "reds under the bed" in the fashion of 1950s Macarthyites. You then open up the scare story of the "gay mafia". I guess it's an attempt to distract from the fact that some members of the previous Tory administration behaved like the real Mafia, and have the jail sentences and other outcomes to prove it.

Here's to absent friends - and porridge.

    1. Thanet Council is blackmailed by turncoats seeking chairmanships and allowances for votes, that is for certain. That one is gay and the other bisexual is co-incidental, they both hold office under false pretences, as does also Cllr Wiltshire now.

Normality is when the electorate get the political candidates they think they are voting for. In fairness to Ian Driver, he is now doing the honest thing and standing as an independent in the county council elections.

      Delete
    2. Deserter Roger Latchford has a fellow UKIP candidate that failed to get elected when he was a NATIONAL FRONT candidate and he has not spoken out against him, but I guess that's different in your little world of double standards Tom Clarke

Cllr Wiltshire joined another party unlike the two bi-sexual Cllrs who you hate so much, yet your secret colleague Cllr Bob Bayford only had nice things to say about Turn coat Wiltshire.

      Delete
    3. Roger Latchford is not a serving councillor and, as such, he is free to support or join any political party he chooses. That is democrcy.

It is those that use a party machine and image to get elected like, Waroow, Driver and Wiltshire who are deserters and turncoats. Whilst respecting their right to change their views they should be required to seek re-election. At the moment you have the irony of Wiltshire holding town and district councillor seats she won as a Conservative whilst campaigning for county as UKIP.

Because one UKIP candidate has a history of NF allegiance should not tar all UKIP candidates and, even he, should be entitled to demonstrate his current views. It is for the electorate to decide.

You 13:38 have only one standard, everyone who opposes you is a bigot or a homophobe. Weird!

For someone who preaches equality and diversity, the hatred for others simply oozes out of you. Latchford and Moores are high on your voodoo doll pin sticking and name calling routine whilst any commentator seemingly supporting a right of centre view is a bigot or practising double standards. That is, of course, when you are not trying to turn everybody into your true pet hate, your one time mentor to whose coat tails you clung, Roger Latchford.

Tell me, who is going to help you get elected to anything ever again?

  17. With Tom Clarke, John Hamilton, John Holyer, Will Roberts (not seen for a while), Ren Wood, Nora Batty and Allan Mallinson, we could have a Thanet version of the West Country song "Uncle Tom Cobbley and all".

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nora Batty was a fictious invention by two anonymous commentators, kicked off as a joke. As one of them, I can assure 18:12 that the name is not regularly by anyone but, when used, it was introduced by a left winger and then, sometime, linked with that of Ren Wood in a satirical dig at the right mode.

I was the other person to use the name, as a joke, in response to the first user. Looking round the blogs, John Holyer, Tom Clarke and John Hamilton all have named accounts whereas Ren Wood, Allan Mallinson and Will Roberts do not. The latter also reappeared recently saying he was back from Nigeria.

I think they are all different people and their views, though mainly right of centre, also vary on some issues. Even the two Clark(e)s who regularly comment can be poles apart with Tim, though disillusioned, still a Conservative and Tom probably UKIP.

Please try to be a little more observant, 18:12.

      Delete
    2. Nora Batty a work of fiction, well I never. I'm shocked. Anon, I wasn't suggesting that any of those contributors is a duplicate of another. Simply the list of names and the similarity with the song. Whether someone posts anonymously, or (equally anonymously) by using a fictitious name, is of not an issue as far as I am concerned.

    3. Then why raise it, 16:47?

  18. With even the Gazette highlighting these twits surely Clarke etc should set up their own blog for their stupid views? I think we all know they'd have few views.

The future reply to their inane nasty drivel should be "Stop Clarke" etc

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Gazette made reference to repetitive comments and name calling but cited nobody by name. How presumptious for 04:36 to assume that the article refers to other twits and not him.

Surely two of the most guilty, when it comes to repetition and name calling, are certain anonymous contributors. There is the one, who we all know, who only ever goes on about sexuality and brands everyone a bigot or a homophobe. Then there is the other who, no matter what the thread, goes on about the aquifer and 0% salaries and dismisses everybody who even seeks clarification of his comments as stupid or an idiot.

At least most contributors try to respond to the subject of the post even if, almost inevitably, they get distracted by some provocative comment from one of the anonymous duo.

      Delete
    2. The Gazette referred to the appallingly low level of debate and namecalling. Scroll up and see at least three comments by Tom Clarke essentially saying nothing. You may disagree on Manston etc but they are valid points of debate beyond yah-boo numpty politics?

      Delete
    3. So I suppose your contribution, Anon 00:23, is full of salient points that add to the debate. Well you could have fooled me because all you seem to be doing is decrying another blogger simply because he does not support your point of view.

      Delete
  19. Look over on Thanet Watch where according to one Paul Frew you need an O level, an A level and a degree in history in order to have a valid opinion. Since I don't I will contribute nothing other than to say what a prize dick-head this Paul Frew must be.
