What are we to make of all this intrigue surrounding one of our highly respected councillors.
As a one time close observer of local politics, I just wonder why, Simon felt it necessary to talk to the press, or indeed anyone, I for one do not know what to make of it other than to say that if Louise Oldfield believes she has been a victim of bullying she is entitled as a hard working citizen and champion for Margate to ask for assistance from Kent police and they as the experts expected to do a proper job.
Simon is frequently misunderstood as was the case when I posted this some time ago
And by the same token if Mr Moores is accused by Ms Oldfield then he has a right to defend himself. If he chooses to go to the press then so be it; his accusers do not have the sole right to choose weapons.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr Holyer as Simon's chief cheerleader and supporter of his messianic vocation to 'correct' the 'wrong' thinking of all who may contradict him, perhaps it would be as well to declare an interest at the start of your comments. Of course, Simon should have the right to reply, If only to make him aware that he should extend that right to others and not either attempt to shut down any dissenting voice, or promulgate the libels and lies of others.
DeleteCowley,
DeleteI do not understand your point about declaring an interest. I have never met nor spoken to Simon Moores.
I once spoke out on a blog in defence of Ian Driver. I suppose that also marks me as his chief cheerleader and supporter by your curious reasoning.
I would also be willing to speak out for you for I realise that paranoics have a tough time.
I have just realised. Perhaps you were attempting to be sarcastic. Well done and thanks for the mention.
John doesn't it depend on what Louise said to the police as we only have one side of this so far its a moot point. Anyone can say things but how and what is investigated is surely down to the Police and the Police have made errors of judgement in the past as we all know.
ReplyDeleteIt will all come out in the end and that is the time to pass judgement in the Court of Public Opinion surely
The fact is that Simon cannot know the reasoning of the Chief constable and PCC. Simon has chosen to disclose to press that he was interviewed under caution. That implies that the warning steps in single case complaints of harassment were bypassed. Which implies that Police were treating the case seriously from the outset.
ReplyDeleteJohn Holyer, Simon's accusers have a right to report to police under privilege. This is not "Choosing weapons" it is using the law of the land.
Simon has chosen to promote a trial by media of Ms Oldfield, Ann Barnes JP PCC and the police. Thus raising public debate based only on his interpretation and presentation of the facts.
Last year according to his blog he was expert on Gun Range matters. Yet in the fullness of time he had to email and admit he has no knowledge about the gun range activity whatsoever.
I dare say he is doing the same now. Self appointed expert, judge, jury and media source on Ms Oldfield's complaint and police reasoning.
If a number of Thanet cold cases (Assault, hatemail etc) are in police minds then maybe it would have been helpful if the tory cllrs could have clarified whether or not one of them had financial assistance from Mrs Mortlock in his house purchase. Since the cllrs are courting the press perhaps one could explain what he said in thanks to Mrs Mortlock at a meeting held at Salmestone Grange ?
Whilst Simon was stirring up media attention he also managed to fly his part in this stunt
Resign Lady Mayoress of Pompey because you are Welsh campaign
Mrs Mortlock's libel case win
A Thanet cold case is the paramilitary assault on Mrs Mortlock 1996. She was in no doubt the assault was aimed at intimidating her into dropping her libel action.
That cold case was linked into gun range matters by a report of concern two years ago from a retired Det Ch Supt (Ken Speakman of 6th Thanet Gun range murder 1996 case officer)
At the same time as intimidation (including threats to kill and yes Mr Holyer I have Mrs Mortlock's signed letters on this) there was a vicious hatemail campaign against Cllr Iris Johnson. Another Thanet intimidation/harassment cold case. Iris unseated tory Cllr Maison, IIRC, at the 1995 council elections.
No doubt John Holyer you would argue that the cold cases are time expired from possible relevance ? But who claimed knowledge of matters gun range at that material time by expounding on his blog with his usual sneering rhetoric ? Simon Moores.
The PCC and Chief constable were right. Moores was properly protected in law by caution. If he was asked questions related to cold case harassment I doubt he would include that in his press briefing.
If he wants to say he was not living in Thanet at the time of these cold cases associated with Thanet tories and he has no knowledge. Then correct the piffle written on Thanet Life about gun ranges.
IMO Moores is something of a Stephen Glass. Not entirely rational.
SM correct a libel that may serve his arcane purpose? I would suggest that the flying digiwizard has his eyes shut and hands over his ears in horror at such a proposal.
DeleteGuns, glass, cold cases.. you missed the IRA, generators and terrorist training tho....

ReplyDeleteMy apologies. I unreservedly retract my unwarranted remark about Moores being a 'reptile'. It was never my intent to paint innocent reptiles as in any way related to SM.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Simon, did you really abjure cynicism in your blog? Or does that just mean that you will remove any comment that is critical of you. If so, this is a Damascene conversion of truly biblical proportions. It is curious that when you have had libellous and untruthful comments pointed out in respect of others, you have assiduously ignored requests to moderate in any way. Hey ho, I expect you may feel differently now the press is on to your own shenanigans and the police asking you to 'come quietly' - some hope.
ReplyDeleteWith some err regret I've removed your comment which in my opinion was a fair observation, if you exclude reference to reptiles.
ReplyDeleteFair shout. Obliged for leaving the others. Jolly good luck with your blog, I shall certainly be following it with interest and pleasure.
DeleteThink you mean Tony 17:43. Moores moderates his blog

DeleteLyndon or Rick please do not post your rambling boring and defamatory comments on my blog.
DeleteLet's hope the council peer review by the Local Gov Assoc deals with this and Chinagate, 0% fraud etc. The Police should have questioned councillors far sooner. no doubt putting their pensions before policing. A 1.99% tax increase (just below that needed for a referendum and in a recession) and the exact same as KCC - and closing Ramsgate Police Station? Plod don't seem able to add up.
