Isle of Thanet Gazette

Unlike the Thanet extra which in recent times I have found difficult to obtain, the Isle Thanet Gazette was easily found. I don't know whether it is just me but I found Friday's edition a little too close to the gutter than is usual. I found their lead article concerning Roger Gale rather sensational, and lacking any merit. Although I have never voted for Roger Gale I know that he is a hard working MP who represents his constituents well. All this article did for me was to reinforce my opinion that our local MP is a thoroughly decent man. Having read the story I personally think so what, whilst it may have sold a few newspapers is it necessary for the Gazette to write negative stories about local politicians on purely personal matters.

  1. You are right, Tony. It was a disgusting article which the Editor shouldnt have given the go ahead for. Its completely unnecessary. Whats worse is that its not actually about him, though the paper definitely makes the implication that its his judgement. This is something that should have been left in the past.

  2. I say three cheers for the Gazette actually digging up something a bit more newsworthy than the usual round of fete openings.

More power to Nick Dorman's elbow!

  3. Not really anonymous. This story is extremely one-sided. It makes out that the person in the story is basically evil and a threat to the NTCA. I can assure you, she is no threat at all. Whilst Im most disappointed in whoever this source might be, Im very disappointed in Nick Dorman who I thought somewhat better of until I saw that frontpage. Its sensationalist and drags something back up that she clearly doesnt want to go back to and that shouldnt need to be aired again.

The story is not newsworthy as it has no bearing on anything, including her role in the NTCA.

  4. Surely the point is what it says about the hypocrisy of some of Gale's other statements about Asylum Seekers?

  5. Thought it a good piece of local journalism. Pointing out hypocrisy by those in power is what local papers should be doing. I hope to see more of it, lord knows Thanet could do with less hypocrites in political power.

  6. Its rare to see any politics in the Gazette so what purpose did this story serve.

  7. Leaving the rights and wrongs of this story aside, isn't it about time Roger hung up his boots? He's well past it.

  8. The problem is that the story isnt about hypocrisy. Its just about someone getting a job so soon after being released from prison. What crime is she doing now that warrants this article?

  9. Roger Gale helps to rehabilitate an offender who did something that at the political level he is spot on about being anti; i e illegal immigration. The man is a Tory and almost saintlike in helping a down and out.
On the other hand Prescott, our Labour DPM, lives like a Lord and hypocritically bonks the modern day equivalent of the serving wench, having sent his wife home. Who is the hypocrit here and far removed from any sense of integrity? our horny Labour Party minister of the Crown?
