Rubbish update - Utter Chaos-Game over for Cllr Alan Poole?

The Thanet Gazette gives good coverage of Thanet's public health crisis as the council fail miserably to take control of the waste disposal.

Items that need to be addressed

1. Giving credible and up to date information would help allay some of the problems, unfortunately Thanet councils waste website has not been updated since Christmas Eve.

2. No explanation as to why scheduled collections didn't take place on Tuesday this week.

3. Perhaps rather than blame the public for not reading poorly produced error prone leaflets, Cllr Alan Poole ought to check his and his council colleagues literacy skills.

4 Even Alan Poole's Labour colleagues are bemused by the reason given for cancelling Christmas eve's cancelled collections, except of course that of Labours other genius Clive Hart whom lamely came up with some waffle about health and safety and utterly meaning less claim that the service was "under constant review"

5 An honest appraisal is due to the public for the inconvenience caused, another factor has been suggested to me for disruption is that a site which receives waste from Thanet was closed and nobody bothered to check this.

If Thanet Council were a business, by now, you'd expect the chief executive to have asked, whoever is responsible for bins to explain whats gone wrong, why and finally why they shouldn't be sacked, still fortunately for those working in the public sector, they are accountable to no one other than other public sector bods.

Finally assuming no North Korean type discipline exists in Thanet Labour, maybe its time for honest rank and file Labour members to give Alan Poole and Clive Hart the heave ho.

    1. Presumably, 14:38, you had an 'I love Poole' poster in your window?

  3. Tony, is there any particular reason that ads for Mature Dating are appearing on your blog?

  4. The Pleasurama farce exactly 12 months ago and now the feeble recycling processes (why is TDC closed for almost a fortnight over Xmas when the rest of the public secotr manages to keep offices open?) means Poole and Hart and Mcgonigal have failed again. Ferrygate continues as does EKO. The charade of the Manston Airport Committee refusing to monitor the airport is even worse. They must go. Unfortunately Bayford and Wise are as bad. They must go too.

  5. If your interest is in seeing TDC get basic operations right - and I absolutely agree they should and seem not to be - then why not refer this to the Local Government Ombudsman or the Department for Communities and Local Government, as a complaint of incompetence? Or is local political point-scoring more personally satisfying?

  6. The Ombudsman is useless, just another tax funded department issuing memos of concern and possibly a minor fine from tax. If not why has TDC not improved in previous years?

And you can refer the matter to them too and see what happens. The fact is that our councillors are incompetent and corrupt and need to go. That's not political point scoring in any way just the facts. The wider concern is why the police are so feeble in investigating such blatant and repeated corruption: maybe the new Chief Constable won't last long.

Our corrupt councillors and civil servants are right in believing they can get away with it and maybe a secret payoff and lessons learned waffle at the end of it like Samuel and White or Infratil.

    1. Thank you, Tim, quite sensible until your usual stuff about police involvement. Incompetence is not a police matter.

    2. Tim,

Incompetence is not a police matter. If it were you would have been banged up for life years ago.

  7. He already has been banged up once, 11:32, which is why he wants every one else to suffer the same fate.

  8. The honest rank and file labour supporters are being whipped into inaction and sworn to secrecy. Show no weakness. Stand together. There is some chattering amongst the senior Labour members but no one has been brave enough to actually stand up to Clive and Alan. The same old lines of 'difficult choices must be made' and 'there are no other options' are being constantly made. Alternative views are dismissed with 'we have looking into that and...' The argument is it is as much about officer competence as councillor competence. If we were shareholders, the CEO would have been forced out years ago. Its time for change - and it needs to happen before 2015. It needs to happen now

    3. interesting that Poole's apology about the refuse debacle which was printed today on the Council website, id not a personal apology! He certainly owes all the Thanet people he has blamed for the refuse crisis a personal apology for scapegoating them.
At the end of day of Pool is in charge. Its his portfolio and no amount of blame games will change that. he gets £10,766 special allowance on top of his basic £4,360 councillor allowance for heading the refuse service. He should be a man and shoulder that responsibility. Rather than behaving like a spoilt child and blaming others.

But he's not untypical in response. The poor old Independent Members of the Standards Committee were shamelessly bullied into resigning by Clive Hart and Co for having the temerity to criticise councillors.

It is time for change and I will be publishing some suggestion about what I think can be done to being about change on my blogsite shortly

  9. Tony odd to see all your comments are Anons and even stranger they are moaning about google ads generated by their own browsing habbits............... Did you see the news and the mess that Brighton have got the waste collection into PILES and PILES of rubbish at least our own problems seem to be less than theirs. As to if this was private enterprise running the show they would be out of business. Most public sector workers enjoy conditions and remuneration above private sector workes but they moan about their lot and do less work than the public sector. SACK the lot of them would be my answer and as for 14,000 quid for being a councillor no wonder they cant sort stuff out on top of their normal salary they must be out spending the lolly.
