East Kent Sacrificed as France damages the UK Economy

Cutting through the back roads early this morning on the way into Margate, my attention was drawn to work at Manston airport to create a lorry park, it struck me in the dim light, as a somewhat weird and sinister sight, a line of tower lights have been placed along on the runway.

As I drove down Spitfire Way, I'm thinking,  how the hell are hundreds of trucks going to negotiate their way to the airport. (At its peak more 6,800 trucks have used the channel tunnel in one day).

Spitfire Way is a signifcant route out of Thanet travelled by many of us, who have to go outside the area for work it looks like commuters and those who live in Manston will be stuffed ,still the fat cat Tory masters in Maidstone and Etonian low lifes in Downing St. or indeed property speculators wont be losing any sleep.

It's some time since I last posted but the creation of a lorry park, at Manston is worth a mention,  my main thought is that, this may not have been possible without the Leadership of Kent County Council,  Paul Carter, has I understand has often suggested such a thing and has now got his way. So far his administrations has had many achievements traffic management is not one that comes to mind, in fact it's the controversies I recall, such as the failed broadcasting project, poor children services and fat payoffs to staff for reasons that have never been explained.

The background to the chaos at our channel ports, is the UK governments ineffectual reaction to repeated attacks by French activists. I think the Labour had it right the other day (not that they did Jack **** when in government) but its about time the government demanded compensation from France.

Part of the current disruption to cross channel traffic is caused by the plight of migrants, and I can understand why, they are so determined to get to the UK, however when we see the news, perhaps a question to ask is why are refuges are sleeping in tents and shacks, France is a rich country couldn't they do better.

My theory is that the limp attempts to keep channel crossings open are part of the French authorities conducting a covert economic war, some of the recent disruption has come from industrial disputes, it seems that France allows special interest groups to run riot, can anyone imagine Kent police to allowing trade unionist to blockade roads with mountains of burning car tyres such has recently been the case.

When will Cameron and his cronies man up and sort out France. It looks like Thanet is about to be cut off by the lunatic scheme to divert lorries 60 Miles from the channel ports.

  1. Tdc payoffs for Macgonigal are equally strange by ukip. But Tony u bleat about manston as a cargo airport yet now the lorries qoild cause chaos for u?

  2. Whats wrong with the French striking or setting fire to tyres? The Suma or live exports mob could try it too?

  3. How would an hgv port badly run by tdc again be of use to thanet?

  4. How come no planning permission was needed for a lorry park? Or have the UKIP council just rolled over for some reason we are not being told. Likewise the two local MPs who said the scheme would be bonkers, they seem to have accepted it.

  5. Numpty council planning as a few hundred lorries would gridlock maston yet there is parking space for thousands and a parkway. And the pollution?

  6. A car blockade of manston and the port would end hgv and animal exports. Especially if the police are arresting peaceful deminstrators and ushering in the animal hgvs

  8. You could look at the route before blogging. The lorries (should it come to pass) will be entering the site at Minster roundabout. Then departing near to Jentex and returning to the roundabout at the end of the village. Nowhere near Spitfire way. but then why let the truth get in the way of a rant

  9. If you are worried about the traffic Tony I know that you are keen for all of us to support the railways. So Tony do your bit, drive to work once, then on the way home drive to Ebsfleet were you will find loads of parking spaces then catch the train to Margate and back again in the morning. You will arrive at work feeling much better.

  10. I doubt you'd appreciate that most of my work requires me to travel at unsocial hours when trains don't run, still if you're of the class that has a well paid easy life, relax on the train, I and people like me are happy to work hard to maintain your comfort.

Incidentally I do use the train, when going to London to soak up a bit of culture such as the theatre or museums, a few weeks ago I travelled down to Cannes for my annual Mediterranean hols, probably three times the cost of easy jet still getting the train at Ebbsfleet about half nine in the morning and sitting down for dinner at eightish relaxed after booking into your hotel and taking a stroll, priceless.

    1. Given the high incidence of over-running engineering works, perhaps crews don't work quite hard and quickly enough.

    3. 18:15 In the years I've worked on the railway only once have I been on a job that resulted in an over-run and that was due to poor management, as for not working hard enough, that is subjective, still having had white collar jobs I can appreciate the tough nature of such a life, the pressures, should I have another biscuit with my tea, will the boss notice take an extra 10 minutes for lunch.

    4. Strange then Tone that 1/3 of rail projects are on hold due to overruns....Perhaps that's management and not the workers in your prole-centric view of life., Or maybe just Romanian workers?

  11. Glad that you supported the French national railways. I have done the trip a few time but did not pay the earth. Take a look at the European train travel advice - seat61 site and by booking early and also using the IdTGV service you can do Paris - Cannes first class for less than £100.

    1. As it happens I did read up on seat 61 however I'm a little more impatient booking only a month before traveling and the same week as Bastille day, also I went first class, still transfer between stations in Paris was not made easy, you would think the French would make some more concessions to the English language.

Still with France allowing the ports to be blocked I shall not be rushing back any time soon

  12. So you delete polite comments that challenge a) your decision to blog again and b) your non-publication of comments submitted under your last thread. Obviously your supposed "liberal" principles are completely dead and buried. UKIP through and through now!

    3. Kent polices only role is to keep live animal exports going. They should be turning back the lorries not arrests of demostrators who pay their wages on trumpedup charges

    6. Interesting point on michaels blog about the former audit commission staff hired by grant thornton to audit tdc. Why wait for the audit period when foi allows any documents or emails to be provided. Although tdc refuse lets hope the pleasurama bvi contracts will emerge from tdc

  18. $2 million of Riveroak funds for Manston? That will be spent on months of lawyers going round and round? It will pay for TDC staff in dealing with this farce?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Presumably by about xmas most of those funds will have been spent on to and fro and riveroak will be asked for another tranche of funds...or theres a suma whipround and bring and buy sale....

  20. Suma are now worried that stack lorries would pollute the aquifer under the runway. And planes wouldnt? Are they complete idiots?

  21. And its funny when Gale moans about lorry queues at manston with Stack yet doesn't see the same issue with a cargo airport
