Labour takes Control of Thanet Council

Iris Johnson proposed Clive Hart as new leader of council after Cllr Bayford loses vote of confidence.

It will be interesting to see if Clive Hart is up to the job, I'd like to think he is but I'm afraid. ....

Anywayh the vote in favour was confirmed at 20:29 twenty eight for Hart twenty six votes for Bayford.

  1. So much for the votes of the Thanet electorate. One snake turns and the party with the most votes is out.

Heaven help Thanet is all I can say and I suppose the same is true of Hart if, to cling to power, he has to rely on the support of the same snake.

  2. Bob Bayford and his cabinet can look back with pride and say "at least we had lunch with queen". I cant remember what else they have achieved for Thanet apart from getting themselves voted out.

  3. Not by the people they didn't and that is all that should matter.

  4. Thanet District Council has a new leader, Councillor Clive Hart. A vote took place earlier this evening which resulted in Councillor Hart winning 28 votes, with the previous leader Councillor Bob Bayford receiving 26 votes. Newly Independent Councillor John Worrow, who quit the Conservative Party last week voted against his former leader and voted in favour of Councillor Hart. Fellow Independent Councillor Jack Cohen, also voted for Councillor Hart, whilst Councillor Bob Grove voted for Councillor Bayford and Councillor Tom King abstained.

  5. Outgoing leader Bob Bayford was the first to congratulate the new leader of Thanet District Council Clive Hart. Councillor Hart thanked Councillor Bayford for his efforts. Read more on this story in Tuesday's Thanet Times, get in touch and let us know your views!

  6. Those quotes above are from the Isle of Thanet Gazette via Facebook by the way.

Hopefully TDC will now start concentrating on on other parts of Thanet instead of just Margate all the time (that comment was all mine!).

  7. Better or worse for Thanet, what do you reckon Tony?

  8. Clive Hart has shown little by way of leadership skills managing Thanet Labour, let alone the District Council, so Tony's pessimism is not unwarranted.

It would take a good spirit of co-operation and mutual support to run TDC on these knife edge majorities. Labour did not give that to Bayford's team so can one see the Tories helping Hart's crew.

Very sad for the people of Thanet.

  9. I haven't been impressed by him in opposition either (plenty of political point scoring but no real ideas or policies) though my glass is still half full...

    Lovely hair.
