KENTWATCH - Councils cannot get enough of the Olympics

Sorry for not the following the mainstream mindless hysteria over the Hackney and Stratford Olympics, for me the joy was short lived, up to winning the Olympic bid, the Olympics was accepted on the premise, that they would be delivered for a mere 2 billion, much emphasis was place on these being affordable games, not long after the costing catapulted to a eye watering 8 billion.

Yes many of us will be swept up in the endless promotion, the BBC daily prostitutes itself with torch madness, in which seemingly rational BBC journalists daily talk utter bollix about the torch progress,  still what much of this has to do with sport, who knows.

For me the true winners of the Olympics are big business and despots, whether it be purveyors of unhealthy food products high fat sugar salt, the military for being allowed to dust off otherwise never used rapier missiles, control freaks creating no go areas for commuters and business.

As we witnessed with the last Olympics in China, the country was able to white wash its human rights abuses including the criminal and brutal oppression of Tibet and of course ever since it has been business as usual.

The United Kingdom is not comparable, we have problems but these are minor, in comparison, still the propagandists amongst us, cannot resist, which is perhaps why Cameron offered extra dollops of money to organisers, to pep up the ceremonies and of coarse lessor political entities cannot help but try and wrap themselves in a little hype.

So it comes as little surprise to spot Olympic branding on Margate sea front and who's behind this, well Thanet council cancelled Margate's Big Event for torch madness and of course Kent council who often cannot grit roads in the winter can find money to pay for flags tied up on lamposts.

Me I'd like to see children safe in the community and old people looked after anyhoo enjoy the celebration, county councillor Mike Hill OBE had this to say about KCC wasting money on Olympic branding “The brightly coloured Olympic and Paralympic branding will give the county a real feeling of celebration and help bring the Games atmosphere to Kent’s communities.” yes lets not worry about he and his fellow Tories covering up governance issues with a bit of fluff.

Local tourism boss Sandra Matthews-Marsh (visit Kent) added this “With excellent special coach routes, and train services to Stratford from Ebbsfleet, the Games are on our doorstep and we are a host county for the Paralympic Road Cycling events. This is going to be atruly memorable summer. I may be corrected on this but as I understand under Olympic time tables, trains services face severe disruption.

  1. Watch the television spoof comedy "2012" and you will soon recognize the Mike Hills and the Sandra Matthews-Marshes. Cliche-spouting clowns scattering our money like fairy dust.

  3. Couldn't agree more Tony. I am already sick of the Olympics even before it has started.
Typically British embarrassment too, over the security fiasco.
The comedy Twenty twelve is obviously spot on.
The amount of money and media hype is obscene.

I see also from 38 degrees that Macdonalds, Coca Cola and Adidas have received massive tax breaks so now stand to make a huge tax free fortune.

  4. The olympic rings hanging from Tower Bridge cost £300K, apparently. Nice work if you can get it!

In case you missed it, investigative journalist Ben Fellows went undercover in the training preparations for G4S security staff. What he discovered was astounding.

    Interview here with Tony Gosling.

  5. speechless ! can't we just celebrate something we will never see again in this country or our lifetime again & you know it might inspire a few poeple to get their backsides & take up a sport. Thus reducing the massive burden on the nhs becaause of lack of excersize !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Not to mention the similar lack of capitals, spelling and punctuation!

Sorry. I find it hard to celebrate something that costs so much when we can't even "afford" to look after our old properly.
8 billion on running and jumping is ridiculous.
You go ahead and enjoy it though.

  8. I take it Tony that you dont want crowds in Margate to see the torch (and Tracy) and to spend loads of money in the town.

    1. I would prefer to have seen the big event which provided family entertainment for family's over two days.

Still labour are simple minded folk and will no doubt prefer the excitement of Tracy emin running up the stairs of the Turner than a weekend of fun

  9. Who in their right mind wants to witness a satanic torch ritual ? Anyone with any common sense will check it out for themselves and stay well away.

Look into the work of Rik clay & Matthew Delooze who have been exposing this event for many years.

  10. Following on from the last blog KENTWATCH - KENT TORIES IN YET ANOTHER COVER UP?

It looks like KCC have got their snouts into this as well , best leave your children at home if you do go.

    Julia's nomination story

Julia Chilcott is a Foster Carer for the County Council and has been doing this for in excess of 24 years. She is a truly caring person who sees good in everyone, she provides a loving environment which allows children to thrive, she finds it difficult to say No and when approached by the county social services will make changes to accomodate their wishes. I believe that she makes a huge difference to childrens lives and is one of the unrecognised people who make a difference to the community. There may be other carers like her but I feel that allowing her to carry the flame she will represent ALL foster carers across the region.

    http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers/torchbearers=julia-chilcott-3507/index.html

How many families go unrecognised everyday for looking after their children and family and don’t get paid for it . I would love to challenge and see how many would STILL be doing it without being paid loads for the luxury of being part of a billion pound child industry, or even only gave them what single mothers would get to support their children, would be very low I think.

You will never find a poor foster/social worker or lawyer.

  11. Yes, let's totally ignore the showcase opportunity this gives our country, all the jobs created in the construction phase, the extra work and business around the area in the run up to and during the games, the increased tourism and the longer term business generated.

Oh, and especially for Ian, all the opportunities for unions to blackmail the country during this high profile event. So you would throw all this away and leave people on the dole in order to pour the money down the bottomless pit of welfare.

When will you get the message that money has to be earned in order to spend it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Do you seriously believe that these games will generate more than the £8 billion they are costing?

    ReplyDelete
  13. In a word, yes, over time, but, in the meantime, a lot of people have work they might not have otherwise. Better to spend money to create work than to spend it perpetuating unemployment.

    4. 70,000 of them will be unpaid at an event where the relatives of the participants will not be able to afford tickets which are, incidentally restricted to Visa card holders.
This is a corporate event. It has nothing to do with sport.
It's a disgraceful sham that is exploiting people's goodwill.

  19. Have you all read about this ?

Apparently, the World Trade Center Twin Towers Owner Larry Silverstein's Buisness Partner Owns London Olympic Stadium

The whole site ( Olympic stadium ) is built on 100 tons of radio active nuclear waste. Larry Silverstein who got insurance for 911 towers. his business partner " Frank Lowry " founder of Westfield group owns the London Olympic site.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/jun/20/radioactive-waste-olympic-site

Westfield currently has interests in total assets worth A$58 billion, owning 119 shopping malls in four countries - Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States - with over 10 million square metres of retail space. It is the world's largest retail property group by equity market capitalisation.

Despite the Westfield Group's asset dimensions, the Westfield Group is strongly controlled by the Lowy Family Group, including non-executive chairman, Frank Lowy, one of its founders.[7] Lowy's two younger sons, Steven and Peter, are joint managing directors

Plan is to knock down the stadium and build housing

    1. Built on tons of radio active material, leastways it was supposed to be contaminated for 1,000 years. Just goes to show you cannot always believe what it says on the packet, even with an atom bomb.

    2. Ah. I'm with you. Yes true. Except Hiroshima and Nagasaki have the highest rates of liver cancer in the world.
Probably nothing to do with it.

    3. True, but that could be too much saki. Still interesting how this is a flourishing city when the doomsayers talked about half lives of a thousand years. Still a bit confused where all the radio active material came from on the Olympic stadium site.

    4. You haven't fallen for the "radioactivity is harmless" propaganda have you?
Some research into other cancer rates in those cities, also child leukemia rates in towns near Sellafield and other nuclear plants ought to convince you otherwise.
There is an active campaign to convince us that nuclear power is safe as the industry is going to have to find places to dump the waste (Romney Marsh?) in the near future.

    5. Yogi, the last thing I fell for was a cute little female army officer years ago and now I am sceptical about everything. That is both arguments, for, since matter can neither be created or destroyed, at least in theory, the radioactive material must be here for us to use anyway.

Seriously though, with the world's seemingly never ending population explosion, just how do you think we are going to generate enough power for the future. Please spare me wind farms, but I would be interested if you have a solution that does not involve nuclear power.

Without solving that problem, and the other one on food, I reckon there will inevitably be some armegeddon anyway so, so much for higher cancer risks. A fair proportion probably won't live long enough to get it anyway.

    6. Yes I agree with that last statement.
My view is a very cynical one I'm afraid. I think humans have a vastly inflated idea of the influence they can wield.
I don't think it makes any difference how we try to save ourselves from the cataclysm that is inevitably coming. We are helpless in the face of it.

Given that we are all doomed anyway, it might be an honourable thing to try and not poison subsequent generations just because we can't wash our own dishes or walk a hundred yards.
Wind farms are a noble idea and have their own set of problems, but as far as I know they do not cause cancer or produce waste that is impossible to destroy.
Geo thermal power has not been explored nor tidal power not solar power to any serious degree.
Our future reliance on Nuclear is not so much a question of no option but more a question of interested parties strangling any alternative at birth. e.g.:eternal lightbulb; 200 mpg carburrettor, (locked in a General Motors safe as we speak.)

We may be on the cliffs edge but must we throw ourselves off before we are pushed?

Whenever the establishment start making up the rules, follow the money trail and you eventually find the answer.

Spurious unsubstantiated excuses are given by the authorities to forcibly place a child victim into "care" via their brought and paid for corrupt secret family courts complete with masonic judges,it appears near impossible to get them out once they have been kidnapped.

What I find hard to believe, for one moment,is that there is even one KCC councillor so-called "corporate parents" who actually give a fig about children let alone the trafficking of them by KCC. All continue to be complicit in the cover up.
