Surely not

It seems to be taking an inordinate time for local councillors to agree on what sort of council, we will be getting, a clue as to what is going on comes from twittering Clive Hart (Thanet Labour), who failed along with his comrades to take control of the council, despite dragging in help from outside and trawling through the digital dustbin that is Facebook for dirt.labourtwitter

Its an uncertain world and my view is that the next four years will be a complete dogs breakfast of bitter rivalry, petty political point scoring, backstabbing and wasted opportunity etc., so business as usual.image

It remains to be seen if former councillor, Mark Nottingham gets a chance to throw a spanner in the works and get Clive Hart and his pals to justify his somewhat contentious removal from Thanet Labour Party.

If anyone has insight on the wheeling and dealing don't hold back ( within reason). I just hope that should Clive Hart form the next administration someone leads it back from his parties recent swing to the right, which has seen Labour fight against social housing and job opportunities.

Whatever we end up I hope the new council will be strong enough to lead rather than be advised by "Officers".

  1. One thing is for sure and that is it will be very difficult for a councillor to decamp to Panama and miss meetings - unless of course someone somehow signs them in! And woe betide the councillor that ends up before the beaks on a hideous crime.
You never know we may have another turncoat.

  2. Young Scobie hasn't yet learned Lesson Number One. He is now top of the local Tory Party hit list and can expect no mercy if they even as much as get a whiff of wrong doing. And he wants to be in politics (presumably) for 50-odd years; long time to keep your nose clean, especially when he moves out into the real world of having to support his own family.

  3. Good to see you back with your postings Tony.

Clive Hart plays to the audience on his twitter. Busy on the phone 'cos he's chasing others I expect rather than them seeking him out.

Notice his Reaper pal is playing dead quiet at the moment- maybe he's tied up in phone calls with Clive...

  4. Perhaps we could have a council made of all the talents irrespective of party.

A lab con alliance, or even names in a hat.

  6. Tony B that's good coming from you, I'm having difficulty remembering any principled stand made by you or your fellow labour dinosaurs, over the disgraceful de-selection of Nottingham.

  7. Annon, I think it is time to move on, you will make yourself ill.

  8. Poor Tony, obviously the Nottingham affair is still a thorn in the side of his Labour Party. Time for Nottingham to how his true worth, as for Clive's twit, twittering pleased to see that he still has time for a swim, in the busy schedule of his "leadership" duties,no mention of fittings for the new suit!!! it will be time to see now whether the Independents are truly independent, we are watching you Tom King, Scobie and Cohen.

  9. Tony, the Facebook Payam story came to my attention when a young woman from Margate came and told us about it. She was pretty upset by the whole thing. I said I found it to protect her as she was worried about repercussions and it being traced back to her by the media. Read into that how you will.

We had a long conversation about this at the count, and I understand your concerns. However when you stand for public office you are accountable to your electorate and are a role model in your community. Facebook is in the public domain and accessible to anyone.

Also I look forward to the Most Wanted posters up in the Tory office with my face on it. I would be surprised if any of them even knew who I was!!!

  11. So young Will acted in a publicly spirited manner based initially on hearsay information and, in the process, screwed another young man's political career before it even got started. Glad he wasn't a brother officer in my regiment!

He is also a bit of a fool to lightly dismiss the tit for tat nature of politics. He will need to live an impeccable life hereafter as there are those who will be watching for a slip.

Oh, and by the way folks, as Tony B has pointed out, Tories are fair game but we really must move on from the Mark Nottingham affair as that is not up for discussion.

  12. Gent, hope you don't mind me asking but do you ever have anything negative to say about Clive Hart? You seem keen to protect Ms Dark's reputation, appear very keen to encourage folk to move on from the Nottingham saga and are one of the few who commend The Reaper for his 'wit'. The odd general pop at Labour doesn't convince me that you don't have an interest somewhere along the line even if you are not 'red'...

  13. My gosh, 03:30, I have been called some things in my time but 'red' if definitely a first. I think somehow you have misread or misunderstood my comment.

I was saying that Tony B, a now Labour Ramsgate councillor, says we must move on from Mark Nottingham whilst, seemingly, thinking it OK to harp on about a young Tory who posted a silly remark on Facebook.

In my book, Clive Hart should have gone public, well before the election, on the reasons for Mark's deselection and the fact he has not, suggests there is something to hide. I find him egotistic and, as such, totally unsuitable to lead a serious political party.

I have found some comments by the Thanet Reaper amusing and displaying an almost ECR wit at times, but I have yet to work out his/her political angle, if indeed there is one.

  14. Just to point out, I wasn't the one who did anything to Payam. He did that himself by referring to all girls in Thanet on his facebook as slags, etc. He was an administrator of the group, and a regular poster. He also gave his sympathies to Raoul Moat and made jokes about starting a paedophile ring with his friends.

Be the judge yourself, but I know where I stand on all of those issues.

  16. Anon 4.23 Actually Scobie senior was one of the Councillors who I had a regard for but looks like Clive has sold everyone's soul to The Reaper.

  17. All very fine principles, Will Scobie, but ask yourself a couple of questions and answer them honestly. If a young Labour candidate locally had published something silly on his Facebook, that came to your attention, would you have been so quick to expose it and, had you done so, how would that have gone down with your local party?

Sadly, we know this answer, for whilst another Labour councillor, Tony Beachcomber, is calling for us to move on from the Mark Nottingham issue, on which there has been a deafening silence from Thanet Labour, it was OK to publish on the party's website a whole list of Tory councillor misdemeanours going back to absentees in Panama and drink driving. Double standards or what?

No sadly, young man, you are simply continuing in the finest traditions of the party you have chosen to join.

  18. "Gent", are you, Bluenote, Robert Williams and Bill Richards one and the same? You seem to have a very similar background - and similar views. No problem or issue if you are - just curious.

  20. good help thanet if hart and poole run thanet council they don,t have a brain cell between them and yet for some reason people put them back in power why i don,t know having sat in the public areaer on council night it is more like a fair groun show than a council meeting i am sure if the general public could see them they would be out and what the press see in hart god only knows time for change within the labour party they have lost my surport

  21. Well said GENT 06:38 Labour have always played the dirty game, when you have no policies, belong to a Party that has bankrupted the UK for generations to come, are lead by Hart and Poole , there will be no change and the only way they can operate is personal attacks, see 12:51 whose sentiments I agree with. The old saying "empty vessels make the most noise" has never been more true that with the current Labour leadership, why Nicholson and Harrrison put up with them defies description, the Nottingham saga should be enough to prove that if labour is to be taken seriously then it needs a serious Leader, which means Hart has to go and the sooner the better for the sake of his Group and Thanet

  22. "a Party that has bankrupted the UK for generations to come"
    ???
You haven't fallen for that old cobblers have you? Tsk.
    Do wake up.

  23. If you hold Labour in such contempt, Anon 2.19, why would you want Hart and co to go "for the sake of [the Party]". Surely you would want them to stay to ensure a local demise?
