FREE PARKING IN MILL LANE CAR PARK TODAY

Just a quick reminder that starting today Mill Lane car park will be free for stays up to three hours, starting this Saturday for three months.

Thanet Council finance department will no doubt be pleased to know, that Mrs Me will however be spending longer in Margate, getting her hair done, so they can look forward to still receiving revenue from at least one resident.

  1. Why has tdc not avertised this free parking with more with posters etc? I agreed recently to allowing a tdc poster advertising the vollyball in my shop window, public awareness needs to be increased. Motorists pay in College Sq and on the central roads, and are not made aware of the free parking in Mill Hill, and incurring unecessary parking fees.

  3. Anon - agreed, would be nice to see the free parking advertised in town, as we;d forgotten where it was. I'd like to see it extended to all Margate car parks. If I'm visiting the old town, it's a bit out of the way to Mill Hill. I'd have thought free parking at the Rendezvous would better serve the bottom end of the high street and the old town shops.

  4. The free parking appears to be PR excesise for Tdc, and the council are not commited to the plan. There is somethimg wrong with the current parking policy if College Sq lower carpark only has approx 10 cars parked there on a saturday, and these are mainly workers cars. Also in Broadstairs last Sunday carparks were empty, ok the weather was not brillant, but surely it also reflects that people are not encouraged by petrol/carpark costs etc. People will only return to our towns if charges are realistic, and Tdc will fill the carparks if charges are reduced. At the moment TDC seem to hope for hot sunny days to fill the carparks and raise revenue.
