In answer to some of the comments on the previous blog, anonymous 9:19 AM " Blogging will soon die if bloggers cannot take the flak...." I for one have had many hostile comments, not least various threats of violence (interestingly from those claiming to represent a particular type of road user, usually associated with men with a midlife crisis, mindless morons and not surprisingly quite a few of Thanet's leading political knobs).
Anonymous 9:53 PM " Many of the ones in Thanet (blogs) suffer from being right up their own arse" yes so what? " ECR is a joke" surely that's part of the blog, vain and self obsessed (that's part of the character) " I wish there were some better blogs here" try writing one, you smart arse!
In answer to Peter Checksfields, "where's the link to your blog" anonymous 9:53, the reply comes " I have a life and a job so I don't really want to blog"
Anonymous 9:53, suggests he doesn't like the local blogs, is more interested in global issues, suggests navel gazing is just shit, well that's just fine, but begs the question why you fill in your head with shit?
Incidentally I work, long hours, struggle to write this crap, love the feedback, even the rare occasion, when some complete idiot has the urge to chip in, well done! And thank you for your inspirational words, it's what blogging is all about.
Please note that I've written this using voice dictation software, and the above may contain errors, which if I can spot them later, will no doubt correct, but I must get down to Tesco's. Cheers
Tony just though I should say I enjoy your blog, always read your posts, so keep up the good work, as far as the amount of anonymous criticism goes, there is much discussion about the local blogs in the bookshop but no one has ever said they don’t like them because of their grammar or their concentration on local affairs.
ReplyDeleteI think that the local blogs would improve enormously if people took a look at some of the better blogs from around the world.
ReplyDeleteThe ones in Thanet are almost enirely dominated by frustrated, lonely, middle-aged and old men who have had mediocre educations and have a lot of time on their hands.
Given that the council is also made up primarily from that demographic, it would be better if the blogs evolved by being written by a few sharper, less insular people, perhaps some people who have been away to university and have a bigger picture, rather than people who have just lived in our crumbling comatose 'resorts'.
The problem of insularity in the thanet blogs goes beyond who has them, it extends to the fact that most people posting comments in blogs are the same old backward-looking duffers who have them. The very fact that ECR took the pathetic decision to block comments just because two or three people took the mickey out of him is indicative of this. When he made this decision he went from being the moderator of a public resourse to becoming a babbling mad man pissing alone in the wind.
Sadly I suspect that most of the sharper, worldly graduate professional who might be able to revitalise the thanet blogs wouldn't have the time or inclination to get fixated with such narrow concerns. More sadly still, this echoes the wider issue that clever and resourcesful people don't want to live in Thanet and the place has just becomes a smelly rest home for bitter people who can vaguely recall the days before planes took people off to nice destinations like Spain, Italy etc.
2:28pm I don't suppose you have access to a mirror, anyway may I suggest you sling your hook
ReplyDelete02:28 states that blogs in Thanet 'are almost enirely dominated by frustrated, lonely, middle-aged and old men who have had mediocre educations and have a lot of time on their hands.'
ReplyDeleteThat appears to be a rather sweeping statement and whether someone has a mediocre education is no reflection on the intelligence or ability. It maybe an indication of someone's intelligence when they make such statements.
02:28 further asserts that 'this echoes the wider issue that clever and resourcesful people don't want to live in Thanet.' Really is that so? I spent years living in the stockbroker belt of Surrey and whilst there are plenty of clever people in the areas around Dorking, Reigate etc, the main reason for this is the area's proximity to London. I know City types / creative types who live in Thanet.
02:28 also states 'Sadly I suspect that most of the sharper, worldly graduate professional who might be able to revitalise the thanet blogs wouldn't have the time or inclination to get fixated with such narrow concerns.' I spent some years in Surrey seeking out development land, the moment 'development' was mentioned you should have seen how fixated and narrow minded people became. Same the world over. I would suggest that 02:28 has a rather narrow view of the world from his/her remarks.
I for one, am an intelligent and resourceful person. I am also very happy living in Thanet.
ReplyDeletePeople who think Thanet is a bad place to live do not get out enough.
Anon 2.28. You fit your own bill nicely.
Now go away and live somewhere else.
You mean people get fixated and narrow minded about dealing with pollution from 2,000+ lorries a day and having their dwindling green space concreted over so someone can line their greedy pockets?? How unreasonable of them!
ReplyDeleteSurrey must have been glad to see the back of you.
