Announcement

Received earlier today

Statement from Bob Bayford
Leader, TDC Conservative Group

“It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death this morning of Councillor Brian Goodwin.

Councillor Goodwin represented Westgate on Sea ward since 2003 and cared deeply for the area and its residents.

He will be greatly missed by all his friends and colleagues in the Conservative Group at Thanet District Council and in the wider Thanet community.”

  1. Very sad, and I see the TIGs, having accused him of all sorts of crimes against humanity earlier this year, are falling over themselves lauding him and offering commisserations on the blog. Hypocrites.

  2. Very sad, but I don't know why this is getting far more coverage on local blogs than Sandy Ezekiel's arrest.

  3. Respect to the TIGs for their statement, the person above (06:54PM) insults Brian's memory by playing politics and trying to demonise the TIGs,who I am told liked him as a person despite anything that he said. Now is not the time for politics and least both the TIGs and Labour respect that as much as his own colleagues do.

  4. 747 is presumably John Worrow. I hadn't noticed anything from the local Labour Party yet.

  5. Political obituaries are a strange beast. Why do politicans spend so much time outdoing themeselves with sweet words and praise for departed people they hated? Says a lot about the hypocrisy of politics I think

  6. 747 was me and i dont belong to any political set or party but i do belong to the Birchington club where Brian and two of the Tigs were members and i was in the company of them all not that long ago when they were all drinking together and laughing about politics. disagreeing with something someone that said about someone is not the same as hating them and to suggest otherWISE shows hows little respect the person saying that has for Brian quit playing gutter politics and put your love for Brian before your selfish hate for others

  7. Quit playing gutter politics and put your love for Brian before your selfish hate for others. Disagreeing with something he said is not hating him.. thats very true!

  8. I think perhaps a little dignity all round is called for here.

A man who served his community has passed on so time for hats off, a moments silence and condolences towards his family.

We can all return to our usually slagging each other off later.

  9. Clearly from the tributes, here and elsewhere Brian was a decent man doing his best, as is the case with most who involved in public life.

Naturally our thoughts are for those closest.

My apologies for insensitive comments, for that reason I shall close the book on this.
