Gannet College in shock horror spoof
Some weeks ago a single entry blog, emanating apparently from Thanet, was created, a spoof entry, concerning Gannet College, now according to Thanet crimes newspaper another college this time Thanet College has been offended.
Re-reading this a blog, one can see why it would cause offence, having had, the explanation given in the Thanet Times, this is clearly a personal attack by some bitter and twisted blogger.
The Internet, provides a place for anonymity, giving the freedom to express yourself on sensitive issues, but anonymous personal criticism is particularly unpleasant and has little authority given the cowardly nature of such criticism even when its satire.
Blogs are a valid source of comment, news, etc but their value sometimes depends on whether the author is confident enough or honest enough to append their name. Occasionally I criticise our local politicians, but this is not a personal thing more a philosophical view, as it should be .

ReplyDeleteThe blogsphere/blogging/bloggers operate on a meta-form of netizches will to power,(the desire to exert one's will around and apon others) so blogging is an outlet for ones opinions and the more people either agree with you or dislike you, the more "power" read internet Kudos you have, the more rich and full the blogsphere becomes...
Even annomous posters can have kudos, the key in this case with our Gannet College issue is that in this world of infomation and free expression u just have to be able to make decissions on which comments to take up, and which to ignore, if u think reading a blog will enrich your infomation uptake then read it, if it wont ignore it.
issues of personal attackes etc have always been sorted with in comunitys on the internet, from forum flame wars, etc.. but running to the paper (mummy), is not a very adult approach to solving problems.
people have opinions and will express them get over it...
I thought Gannet College was pretty amusing, and obviously some kind of spoof on Thanet College, although I wasn't aware of the background (and I haven't read the Thanet Times article, so forgive me I'm still in the dark).
ReplyDeleteAs an anonymous blogger myself, I don't really have an aim, other than the overthrow of Thanet Council, my own series on Channel 4, world peace, and maybe a large institution of some kind named after me.
Jay- the point is that not everyone is up to being abused, me I’ve had a lifetime of abuse and as mentioned, I rather stupidly use my own name, now I also don’t really know the background but I do know that some people will share the humour of such an article and others wont.
ReplyDeleteEastthing dickcliff- whatever I am in shock, and dismayed, to discover that you are just a creation of some warped imagination, to think, I have been under the impression, that you are a suave, sophisticated but reticent member of Thanet society, perhaps a local philanthropist, benefactor to young ladies or something and now this whole perception has been blasted out of the water.
I naturally assumed you were some sort of, trailer trash, riff raff entertainer made good, remodeled, the fact I never heard of you, I put down to, perhaps you being a judge, on one of those TV programmes, for expiring entertainers Pop Tidal, X tractor, or some Celebrity E-wits Quiz show (look mum I’m back on telly).
To receive appended to one of my rants, a confession that you are just an anonymous blogger, shocks me to the core, have you ever considered, the effects on spinsters of the Parish of Ramsgate, whom may have seen your creation, as there last chance and meal ticket. Not only is your creation bogus but you are also bounder, and many other insults that begin with B (which I will not print for fear of offending readers)
As for channel 4, Ive already been in discussion with commisioning editors with my Idea, about an allround Media johnny who decides to retire seaside town similar to Ramsgate discovers etc.. so mitts off.
I admit it, I'm a bogus bounder. Washed up, with only the residuals from that All Bran commercial I did in the 80s to keep me going, I can barely afford a Nissen Hut, let alone a Cliff Top Mansion. And as for the TT, well, that is a Nissan. And the only Elton I know is in Lancashire.
ReplyDeletePlease can I be on your show on Channel 4 when you get it?
Look hear Eastwick, Do you recall Dame edna's side kick, Madge Alsop, sat in the corner said nothing, I'll see what I can do.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend, decided no more blogging this week, thought I would sift thro the writs from libel lawyers expensive business this blogging, damn
Yes, I've had enough too. I'm buggering off to the Caymans for a bloody good sulk. Oh, did I say Caymans? I meant Cliftonville. Sorry.
