Another resignation at Kent Council

Crikey things are not looking too good in Maidstone as yet another senior figure resigns, last week Tory Leader Paul Carter had to shuffle his cabinet, as two of his county councillor colleagues realised they had more important things to be getting on with.

Today Adam Wilkinson Managing Director of Environment & Regeneration resigned for family reasons, news of which, it seems was er managed in such away that the press apparently knew before council members, who were informed later in the afternoon, emails being destpatch by Peter Gilroy's*, "Staff Officer" Mike Ballard.

It's rumoured that others are set to follow, in the coming days, maybe not every thing is quite as blooming marvelous as Paul Carter and Peter Gilroy would have us believe.

Interesting that this latest resignation is a bit of a coincidence since Cllr Roger Gough who resigned last week was cabinet member for regeneration.

*Does that make him a General?

  1. His name didn't crop up in the Tesco bags did it? That said, KCC Highways are in chaos concrning the implications of HGV movements for Thanet Earth, let alone the HGVs trundling this way if China Gateway gets the go ahead. Its all 'sustainable' development though, according to CGP and TDC Planning Officers, isn't it?

  2. He seems not averse to recomemnding acceptance of sole tender

To get the best environmentally sustainable cafe and toilet block.

    For how much ..... ?

  3. A few thoughts here. I read in the press that KCC is having to cut back on its highways budget but, in connection with the China Gateway deal, did say that the Spitfire Junction had to be improved before development started.

If Kent Highways can't/won't pay for the improvements due to financial woes, could the developer cough up the money from their bank loan from the Israel Discount Bank? We're talking many millions here.

The Chair of the Acol Parish Council has been given some assurances that Acol will get a by-pass, eventually, but who'll pay for that to avoid HGVs going through the village?

  4. This says to me that the conservatives as a whole are very very worried about the coming elections. If reputation was so important they should have had words with their "peers" in TDC a long time ago. I feel it may be too late for them to retain power in KCC or TDC this next time around. Historically we've always had the opposite party to government anyway and the odds are good for the conservatives in a national general...

Nothing is certain of course especially if the normal 60% who don't vote in Thanet show up (then anything might happen).

  5. Loosing one public servant should not be a problem for KCC. Any large organisation has a succession plan ready, dont they? Maybe its going to be the Director of Highways, Geoff Harrison-Mee ex MD of failed Railway company Connex.
You can Google him to see his CV.
