BIG EVENT SUNDAY

The above photo was taken of one of the highlights during the brilliant Airfix Air Show element of the Big Event which will continue today with the stunning Red Arrows, apologies for picture, I think I and my camera were a little unfocused me because of working a night shift friday and the camera who knows.

As I have stressed earlier, there is something for everybody at this event, I myself spent a pleasant half hour or more, absorbing the performance given by the band Riveras in the Marine Gardens just up from the clock tower.

Anyhow events are listed on TDC's website here, today also see's Margates Traditonal Raft Race, on the beach there are various family activities including tradional Punch and Judy to compliment the Airfix Air Show and the live music.

  1. It didn't work for me. Palm Bay should where the event is held. To much squeezed into The Parade and the top of Fort Hill. What would have been a great view of the show over the bay spoilt by the new Council Offices (sorry the Turner Shed). I noticed people were only going in when it was raining. Overpriced food stalls and too much alcohol. Oh and CHARGING to get onto the harbour arm.
Thanks to the Red Arrows and Saturdays Vulcan for making the event, although even here the display was so far out to sea at times I thought they were giving a display at Southend at the same time. Actually looking around I realised Margate really has had its day.

  3. Is this event value for money Tony?
How many thousands cameand what did it cost to put on?
The crowd for last years was estimated to be 50,000 which was not bad compared to the Southend show where 40,000 attended and the cost to the council was £200,000.
Both of these were dwafted by Eastboune 4 days for 450,000 at a net cost of £30,000 after sponsorship. Bournemouth did very well over 4 days, 750,000.
