Clive Hart's Thanet Labour Alliance "Shame"

Maybe it was me, but at last nights Annual Council meeting, I thought that Labour members were a little subdued, sheepish perhaps plain embarrassed at the odd decision to give every member of the Thanet Independent Group a job. Clive Hart looked a bit quiet himself and was quickly upset by a bit of banter.

Nothing in politics changes, reflecting on events last night as I travel home from work after toiling overnight on improving the countries transport infrastructure, I cannot help but wonder what Clive Hart's administration is actually doing to improve the area.

My conclusion is that, the main beneficiaries so far are a small click of councillors in receipt of the largesse of Leader of the council. An additional couple of posts have been created which offer additional allowances to two members of Thanet Independent Group. Some of you will naturally be thinking, what a coincidence others will be thinking what err.... generous man Clive Hart is.

Me I'm just thinking what a blatant waste of money, a shabby betrayal of the men and women who built the Labour party. I just feel a little aggrieved that the additional £10,000 allowances gifted to a couple councillors last night will cancel out roughly the contributions of ten people like you and I who get up when the alarm clock goes off and do an honest days work, just so it can be p***ed away by hopeless politicians clutching to the delusion that they control the reigns of power.

Still to add insult to injury, I found rather sinister that part of Labours alliance, chose to instruct a council officer to challenge my reporting of proceedings (see previous post), absolutely disgraceful, a new Stalinist approach, particularly since in recent times, people have been encouraged to tweet etc.

No wonder the Labour alliance deal was greeted with cries of shame from councillors, and if council officers are to be instructed by the new alliance councillors to disrupt reporting of council business then SHAME ON LABOUR YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO DEMOCRACY.

Finally a quick read of Simon Moores and James Maskell blogs last night and both decided to sleep on events, probably a wise decision, me I was en route to work, and popped in to the meeting, missing the end of the meeting, so mulled over what I did witness on the drive to work. I expect an apology from Clive Hart on behalf of his new alliance, on the disgraceful attempt to intimidate and block free debate.

Good night or Good Morning

PS this will probably benefit from an edit or two when I wake.

  2. Every time I read about our 'elected members' I feel less inclined to vote than ever before. A little less 'ego' and a load more 'service' would not go amiss.

  4. The Chair of Governance is Councillor Worrow? A man who seemingly cannot govern his own blog?

  5. Tony last night was the night Democracy died in Thanet. Labour clinging to power by giving TIG key appontments, TIG members reeging on their manifesto pledges to the Electorate, what a sad night for Thanet and Shame on you Cllr Hart.

  6. Worrow has been in at least four political parties to my knowledge, Driver three, and Cohen four, (and a cocktail cabinet!) That makes 11 parties between 3 'People' ... Seems like they do not know which way they 'Swing'

  8. I wonder if we should be contacting Councillor Hart to enquire where he will be getting the funds to pay for the extra allowances?

I very much doubt it will be from savings from non-essential services.

  9. 8 52 I've removed your comment as it could be interpreted as being an incitement to unpleasantness etc.

Since I have little wish to discuss the nuances of language with Kent constabulary and the difference between what I took to be a theoretical point and a defamatory comment, I have to admit to caving in rather than languish in jail for a hate crime that being allowing a comment..

Although google successfully argued that as conduit for comment they were not immediately liable for abuse if they took action in reasonable time to remove offensive statements I don't have the same wonga to feed lawyers.

Basically what I'm say ren wood is that I have a not inconsiderable backside to cover.

  10. I see that the Blog previously to be found at http://thanetindependentgroup.blogspot.co.uk/ has disappeared up it's own backside... AKA been deleted!

  11. Fully understood, Tony, though my tightening of belts comment was made in jest. Sad that we have come down to this where the cut and thrust of blogging debate is to be policed lest some fragile soul should be offended.

This begins to bring into question your own claim of 'Offending politicians etc' for you now have to be careful which you offend. If its the Tiggies watch out for foot stamping and toy throwing.

  13. I never consciously allowed anything untoward, disgracefully however councillors with no sense of tolerance reason or indeed balance are telling me that they will go to old bill at the drop of a handbag.

Myself I've had abusive threatening comments, even death threats and have yet to act like a big girls blouse and make a complaint to the police.

Still this is just the way all manner of extremists use and manipulate the law to make themselves look good

  14. Because I referred to "homosexuals" as "homos"?

  16. I wonder what they think of their hero Peter Tatchell's comment that we should be freer to insult each other more (I sure wish he'd turned up at a TDC meeting & said that!)...

  17. Sadly, TIG's weblog has gone off the air again but in the true spirit of political cooperation, I have it's archive and Cllr Worrow's former weblog archive and so will help them build this valuable local political resource at

  18. Sounds like a really good night to me, taking firm control and no pussyfooting. At the end of the day that is what control of TDC is all about.
The blue ranks may moan but given the opportunity they would do exactly the same after all they are doing it in central government.

  19. Lunatics, control, asylum.. three words that spring most immediately to mind!

  20. "Taking control" or "handing control" Tony B?

  21. Annon, being in control comes to mind.

  22. Simon, I am taking it you are referring to central government

  23. Tony. I may be wrong bust wasn't it you that once reminded me you were a former member of 'Militant' in the halcycon days of real Labour, not today's fluffy career types!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Simon, may be wrong is an understatement, you are completely wrong not for the first time

Militant along with other far left organisations and fascists like the BNP are run by and for inadequate people who lack normal social skills, balance, or the concept of reasoned debate.

Other than being a liberal all my life I was briefly a member of the SDP at the time of the alliance and formmation of the liberal democrats and this was only because at the time of the alliance the liberal party did not involve itself in Thanet North

So SIMON I would very much appreciate it if you didn't repeat that suggestion again.

  25. Peter the reason I deleted your comment was, becauseI've no reason to see you or I facing a police investigation promoted by one of the wild eyed bankers (and yes that should be spelt with a W) who have recently taken to behaving like nazis claiming to be interested in equality when clearly they mean publicity.

We have to accept that people in politics will I'm afraid abuse public office , take as much money as they can and delude themselves that they are interested in the public.

It's clear to me particularly those who've had a checkered past flitting from party to party, that although they don't realise it they couldn't give a rats arse for much more than their own inflated ego. Frankly they need help themselves.

  27. Correction my comment Friday
3 25 should have made it clear that I did not consider the 8 52 comment to be defamatory in any way.

  29. Tim's quite correct... I can't quite imagine Tony Flaig fitting in with Militant as much as I might try! Interesting idea though

  30. Simon, you are right left of left and these days I prefer to keep my playing cards close to my chest.
