Believe it or not tonight might well be a significant night for the future of Margate as the joint transportation board meet to hear a presentation entitled Margate Seafront Public Realm, basically since no one in Thanet is capable, once again outsiders in this case KCC and I guess the obligatory consultant firm have cobbled together a plan to improve Margate front which they will present to the committee tonight.
The big question from me is should we be worried, what always sets alarm bells ringing for me are phrases like "public realm", "multidisciplinary client and designs team" and "stakeholder engagement" which I think means roughly the same as asking the public, the rest who knows or cares.
Should you be worried, I think you should one quote from the agenda "A particular aspect of the re-engineering will be to increase the amount of regular congestion currently experienced in Margate" which I would interpret as they are suggesting, a pigs breakfast of a pedestrian area, pedestrians mixed up with a continuous stream of queuing traffic with people trying to get home or go to work or just live still you can take a look at the information available so far, indeed you might have got off your backside and decided to attend the presentation which will take place shortly.
Speaking with one of those involved in the proposals, I understand that material from the presentation will hopefully be made available in the coming weeks, also this might never happen, at the moment it's a case of all front and no money, so hopefully Kent Highways wont be screwing up traffic just yet, please god.
As one who drives along Margate sea front every weekday about 8.20 AM in a Westgate direction, I view this prospect with some apprehension. Mind you, I did have similar worries about Fort Hill when the dual carriageway was being changed to two-way flow and that was really relatively painless. Not so, of course, the lights at the clock tower which were horrific.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the sea front is the town's main show piece and we should, perhaps, not dismiss improvements to it lightly. Just that worry about the traffic flow with, for many of us, little realistic alternative.
Maybe a bypass through Dreamland, Arlington House and on to the front of the Sea Bathing development is the answer, demolishing several eyesores on route. I jest, I think!
Be interested to see how this topic gets turned, by you know who, into a psuedo facist, masonic plot to oppress the serfs.

ReplyDeleteAsking the public or just ignoring them, the phrases sound very common purpose to me. You would think by now they would have a simple English policy, of course they will have, but just don’t bother to use it.
Happy slaves are the most grim enemies of freedom.
There are plenty of places where the 'slaves' are a lot less happier since they got their freedom. It is often the freedom to starve.
ReplyDeleteWhat a weird comment

'A newly-appointed Tory peer was forced to make a grovelling apology yesterday after saying that cuts to child benefit will encourage the poor to ‘breed’.
ReplyDeleteThe party’s former vice-chairman, Howard Flight, said taking the handout away from the middle classes will put them off having children. But poorer people, who will continue to draw child benefit, will have every incentive to continue producing offspring. His comments sparked outrage and were immediately disowned by Downing Street.'
We cant have the great unwashed working classes revolting now can we TORY SNOBS
Once again on this blog, a discussion about a subject of interest locally has been hijacked for the usual anti-establishment, anti-Tory ranting totally unassociated with the topic.
ReplyDeleteTony could it be the same person or persons deliberating trying to antagonise with leading remarks to later accuse others of not staying on topic when replying to their comments, wonder what their agenda is ????

just think how many deck chairs this could have brought !
As you choose to refer to me in your latest comment I will respond one last time out of courtesy. I find your comments generally boring, you are rude, you have questioned my intellect too many times and so that is it, finished. You live with and enjoy your conspiracy theories all by your little old demented self, old sport.
ReplyDeleteBluenote old sport !
ReplyDeleteWhat conspiracy theory the information has been supplied by KCC please look at the link old sport.
I was merely responding to your post out of courtesy there is no intention to offend. It does seem rather strange behaviour to be offended by someone who simply gives a reply albeit it a different opinion to your own.
I don’t recall ever questioning your intellect or calling your comments boring or referring to your goodself as old or demented. And so it is you old sport that is being rude.

I think all you doubters will find there is cash available for spending somewhere, its just that KCC and the new LEP may decide to spend it elsewhere like the Thames Gateway.
ReplyDeleteLatest figures show that economy is not is such a bad state after all and the country even has a spare £6 billions to help Ireland.
There are a lot of smoke and mirrors being used, like the cuts in education even though its ring fenced, like the Railways spend that is not what it seemed with its long delays on delivery. But remember that having spent millions on the Turner and Fort Hill, KCC has to do something in Margate to justify its outlay.

ReplyDeleteIt is all orchestrated with plenty of money being put into private backpockets no doubt. Wonder who will get the contracts for this pigs earhole?
And why are councillors and officers having training for disasters natural or otherwise.
I wonder what they can be expecting. Plenty of money is available for this and other rubbish?

ReplyDeleteTo force people to serve the system, to make them stand as surety for the entire construct, would be slavery. Let us not forget that slavery was abolished in 1833, so a government cannot subject the people to a life of servitude unless they volunteer. The problem is that if everyone knew how the game of commerce was really played – the real rules of the game if you like – no one would play, no one would volunteer themselves to a life of unnecessary servitude.
