FIRE AT DREAMLAND BURNS DOWN SCENIC RAILWAY

  1. It does make me very nostalgic, this was part of my childhood as it was for many Margatonians. Its demise (the park) was bad enough but now its centre has been burnt away. I can't say I am surprised.
So R.I.P Scenic Railway, we all hope that you will be rebuilt, but we aren't holding our breath!

  2. TDC served a repairs notice for the Marine restaurant in Ramsgate. Lets see if they have got the nerve or the will to do
the same here. Come on Cllr Hayton. You've been one of the best planning chairman so far!!

  3. How many locals will be suprised that the scenic railway at Dreamland has suddenly burnt down! What a shock to us all! It seems to be following a pattern don't you think?

  4. 'Repairs notice' anon. 10:53pm? 'Repairs notice'? Most of the Marina Restaurant was demolished. And since then, nothing. It's about as likely to be repaired as the Scenic. Or visa versa.

  5. I fear that an attraction that gave me many happy memories as a child will experience words like "damage too extensive" and "loss of key blah-blah-blah" and "a sad day yackity-shmacaty". I can almost hear them getting the cliches ready now. I'm truly unhappy that this has happened but a part of me suspected it would happen sooner or later.

Crocodile tears... I fear you are correct.

  8. I agree with Linda. Dreamland has played a part in all our childhoods and this is a horrible thing to happen to Margate. It may not be suprizing but shocking it most definitely is.

As for it being rebuilt, Ive become so cynical over the years that I seriously doubt it will happen.

  11. If we can't rely on the judicial system to come up with the correct verdict for Lady Di - how on earth can we expect true justice for the those responsible for yet another fire? The system stinks!

  12. Amazing how quiet TDC and councillors are. Now what will burn next, for lets face it would you want an elite house behind the arcades?

  15. Never mind these local conspiracy theories, we need to know how the fire started. Did anyone see where the Olympic Torch went after it was hurried onto a Paris bus on the day in question? I reckon they had just enough time to fly it over to Manston and then drive to Dreamlnad before heading off for the USA. Did anyone see eight blue tracksuited people jogging suspiciously in the area immediately before the blaze?

Might as well be the Chinese (the nasty ones in Tibet, not the nice ones who live over here) for all the good an inquiry will do.

  16. I doubt if anyone would bat an eyelid at people in tracksuits waving combustible materials in these parts, anon!

  18. I was born in Margate and spent 9 years of my childhood there before moving. I remember riding the scenic railway many times as a child and had tears in my eyes when I heard some A-hole had set fire to it. Keep up the fight people, Margate can truly be great again and lets hope that they do rebuild it, seeing as they've repaired after four other fires over the years. God bless dreamland!
