Thanet Earth has it benefitted Thanet

Grilled Tomato As I drove out of Thanet yesterday morning I couldn’t help but notice the vast new industrial complex Thanet Earth, which at just after five, was throwing out huge amounts of artificial light which looked to me, as if the tomatoes and peppers grown there were in the process of being grilled and not for the first time, I wonder what if any benefit has come from this development for the local community apart from its strange illumination of Thanets early morning sky .

  1. Very little.
Minimal local employment; less water into aquifer; light pollution; open plateau views ruined; an agro industrial complex that is only 3/7s complete; inadequate screening; increased HGV traffic. All in all a depressing site and sight.

    Liar Liar Liar

  4. I guess we have to look at some positives. Thanet has always missed out on major development. So what if local employment is not as it might be... at least its an icon that brings some attention...... and I know first hand that those who run it spend their money locally round the pubs.

  5. What an obnoxious nasty piece of shite you seem to be 07:45 and 07:54. Instead of having a go at BB, why not answer the question that Tony puts in this post?

obnoxious nasty piece of shite could also describe Paul Wells/Bertie Biggles. What goes around comes around.
If Bertie can't take it, then he should not dish it out

  7. Paul Wells scares old ladies and school children with his spin about pollution in the drinking water He is thanets Tony Blair with his own WMD trying to get his own way, people don't like bully boys

  8. Oh dear, some people seem incapable of arguing points or discussion in a rational way, but would rather throw invective around.

12:42, you are probably right about 07:45, 07:54 and 11.17 & 11:26. However, I am happy to reply to him myself, thanks.

Interesting how it takes him 9 minutes between each little childish outburst to compose the next!

This Ezekiel Party poster hovers between ECR and Big News with his little outbursts but ignores TDC's own Pollution Register and The Environmental Agency record of pollution incidents. I again extend my invitation to him to come and put his points and argue his case on Strife.

  9. I submitted the first FOI applications which revealed the FACTS of aquifer pollution.

The Environment Agency stated that the Sericol contamination would adversely effect the aquifer for years to come.

The question of whether there was direct abstraction, for a laundry nearby, is still unresolved. And studies into adverse health effects (perhaps more prevalent at Northwood) have not reported. I don't know whether the Kent Health Protection Agency inquiries have gained impetus from political and authority support.

There is no scaremogering in this. Facts of a situation, previously deliberately concealed from the public, have been obtained and made public.

The Environment Agency, as a result, did produce a briefing document for the area MPs who we must assume were previously ignorant of the aquifer contaminations.

Meanwhile the anon internet troll, who stalks Bertie, achieved ? That would be zilch then. Don't feed that troll.

  10. Bertie really does have personal issues to deal with when it comes to the local consevative party. Even fair minded Labour supporters are now saying how one sided and bitter this man has become.

He is so paranoid that he thinks all anonymous readers who have their own mind, must be evil conservatives from thanet.

Paul Wells, who hides behind the false name "Bertie" would be far worse than both the conservatives and Labour put together if he had his way.. jobs would be lost and he would lord over everyone

  11. People like Paul Wells use Tony Blair's WMD style fear as a tool to confuse people.. its really all about Bertie Paul's ego and his hatred of the local conservatives

  12. It's a shame there's not a few more people like Paul Wells around who's trying to change Thanet for the better while others just hide behind their computers & criticise him instead of trying to change things themselves.

Its a shame that you are taken in by his lies
. Ignorance is bliss, or maybe you are him

If more people were like him thanet would be a backwards place full of cabbages. That would suit him as he likes to look down on people

  16. Paul Wells Bertie could always get off his arse and stand for election, he had the chance in Dane Vally but he would rather stay behind his computer and make up spin instead of trying to do things for Dane Vally

  17. NOw then chaps its sunday afternoon, how about we all calm down.

As far as I can tell this posting did not start out as Bertie Biggles smells or even Tories smell so please move on.

I'd just really like to know more what if anything Thanet Earth contributes to this area, as far as I can tell it doesn't

  18. Little nerd, who is having a go at Bertie:

    1. The fact that he is Paul Wells is Thanet's worst kept secret since Aug 2008. Where have you been?
Leadership at TDC put a compliant Margate police officer onto bullying its own councillors to establish who he was in 2008. That should worry us all.

    2. Have you actually read what he has been saying about retaining Eurokent as employment land for jobs? I doubt it.

What is your agenda, then? Attack from an 'anon' tag? Go and mix it with paul/Bertie on Thanet Strife, if you have the balls to do so.

  21. Bertie comes out with nonsense that he can't back up and then he cries when people tell the truth

  22. Down to 4 minute intervals, 5:12,5:16, 5:21! Improving but boring.

  23. Anal retentive, of 5:16 etc, give us all a break?

  24. you're asking the wrong person

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes agreed Paul Bertie Wells makes everything boring . . unlike BigNewsTony and ECR who have wit.

Bertie has no sense of humour unless you include delighting in the misfortunes of others

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bertie is like all bullies, he likes giving it out but cries when people respond

    ReplyDelete
  27. this is just all childish nonsense and nothing to do with the topic

  28. Tony asked for our views on Thanet Earth, and it seems that Bertie gave us his view and then there was space in the comments for others to give their views. Alas this has not happened and ruined what could've been a good coversation topic.

Comments in blogs are there for people to give their views, not to be attacked. If you don't agree then put forward your case. Easy.

Personally I don't think the development has specifically helped the people of Thanet but I do think that it is interesting in the possibility of its impact on the way we grow fruit and veg in the UK.

Yes there are some impacts such as pollution, etc but I think that this is a model for the future rather than us flying in all manners of fruit from other countries when this proves we can grow it here.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty left to improve such as distribution, but I think Thanet Earth is a step in the right direction.

This is my view and I don't think everyone will agree with it, but I should be allowed to say it without fear of getting bullied or harrassed.

I don't agree with everything you said but I respect your opinion. It must be pointed out that nobody has a problem with anyone having their own views, far from it; however, it is Bertie that has created the local blog culture of bullying and personal attacks, quite often he will pull a person apart and not allow them to respond. I don't like the childish way one or two people have responded to him but at least on this blog, there is freedom of speech unlike Berite's blog where he seems to select posts. And no i'm not Tory, Labour or political I think they are all pretty much the same.

  30. What has it done? From what I have observed the price of cucumber is down slightly and the size is up a little. I can't say it has impacted my life at all so that I have noticed.

  31. I really do think that people should do their research before attacking a company. The fact that most people on here have reduced the conversation to a slanging match just goes to show how their minds really work. I challenge you - if you want to talk about Thanet Earth then talk

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well done Paul Wells AKA Bertie Biggles. I am proud of you for speaking your mind. You see it for what it is and don't mind my saying so!
100% behind you. I am tired of narrow minded 'yes men' who say nothing just for a quiet life.
    WELL DONE YOU!
