Labour didn't get it all wrong

I have to confess to being a tad mean to Labour just recently, I would just like to thank them for one thing, the high speed line out of St Pancras, hurtling me back to the the cradle of civilisation, the planet Thanet.

Even if Mrs T's lot started the thing Labour, connected east Kent, so I could make a hasty escape tonight from north London, a rare luxury for me to escape from the crew bus Blackwall Tunnel, 2 hours of hell on the M2, worth every penny of the twenty quid ticket price.

  1. Only £20, you must have a senior railcard or you know how to work the ticket system. Unlike other regions, SE trains dont appear to operate fare deals. You can do Ramsgate to Birminghan with a rail card for £17.60. I know you are supposed to continue your journey to the named station with these tickets but what is to stop you leaving at the tube change?

  2. The price was £20.75 to be exact single journey purchased from the ticket machine a discount was given as I have a network railcard, which cost around twenty quid earlier in the year.

There probably are a few British rail dinosaurs or Network rail bods who get some travel privileges but not in my world. People like me get no holiday pay, no sick, and no free travel that is how it is.

  3. You left out pension, fat bonus payments, "training" jollies to posh hotels, free Bupa, I must have been reading the KCC employees managers handbook.

But I thought that many self employed set up limited companies so that they could reduce their tax bill by paying themselves in dividends, claimed for travelling and meals, claimed for office expenses, put their partners on the books etc. You must go and see ECR's accountant Cyril.

  4. Or should that be the fat cat councillors handbook????

How many of them have connections to companies connected to KCC I wonder?

  5. Yes, Tony, but did the vibration in the tunnel between Ebbsfleet and Stratford make your belly wobble?

  6. Tony, on a more serious note, why so few toilets on HS1? If disabled you could have to walk the full length of the train!

  7. At least you would walk it at speed, Ken.

  8. Looks like the Canadians have bought themselves a high speed train set for xmas. I wonder if they are looking for a cowboy outfit too?

Ken, you should go before you get on the train, thats what South West Trains say, having removed toilets from the Portsmouth to Brighton line trains where journies can take up to an hour-and-a-half.
