Bingo firms legal bid
Now before I finish this little post, you may well consider that I am being hypocritical. One development that I imagine, being welcomed by many would be Land Securities (owners of Westwood Cross) plans to further extend their retail development with a casino, restaurant, Hotel, multi-screen cinema and a bingo hall. Now I have bitched as much as the next person about Westwood Cross and also the proposed housing estate Westwood Bland, the reason being the increased traffic. But development of a leisure complex would result in traffic at the latter part of the day, and most likely not be much of a problem, but the benefits would be enormous bringing some of our current entertainment facilities kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Having read the report in the Isle of Thanet Gazette, a company called the Nobel organisation is going to court for a 4th legal battle in an effort to prevent this development taking place. The main reason for doing so looks like an attempt prevent competition in the leisure industry. A director of the company is quoted as saying that the new development will takeaway business from their Margate bingo hall, crown cash, all that surprises me is that they get any business, at all!
I for one am tired of going to see films at local cinemas, where I am distracted by the uncomfortable seating, tatty decor and lack of heating or adequate ventilation. Last winter I went to see King Kong, admittedly the temperature was probably below freezing, but I did not expect to have to watch a film wearing a thick coat, scarf and as the temperature dropped having finally to put my woolly hat on.
So when you next go to see a film you will know who to thank for the experience.
This area is screaming out for some decent leisure entertainment and these people are going to find their trashy seafront operation deserted in protest if they try suppressing benefits for the majority in favour of their seafront dump.
