Think First - Comment Moderatiion on

Often I offend, and that's unintentional though sometimes its difficult particularly when jabbering on about politics.

Believe it or not, I try to think through the consequences of what I'm saying, particularly given that I post as myself and not some remote untraceable persona, I appreciate that those who don't blog themselves contribute by makeing comments, generally anonoymous and there's nothing wrong with that.

Sometimes I get abused, so what, however sometimes a throwaway comment is placed which can be damaging beyond the authors intent.

Yesterday afternoon I got rung up for a job, (I work for agencies), so I was halfway through wittering about The Apprentice and then I thought I'd take a quick pop at the ease with which the Conservatives see themselves fitting in with Kent council, any how as a consequence I didnt read through comment on this site.

One comment made yesterday was not worth the trouble of making, I just ask you to think before pressing Publish comment button, I'd prefer not to come home from a long day to check my emails and have deal with the consequences of someone else's off the cuff remark and I find my own comments bad enough!

  1. What a pile of shyte you just spouted, if ya dont like people commenting then fuck off and get a real website where you can play lord and master all you desire. I personally am fed up with idiot bloggers making such absurd remarks as you just did. If ya dont want it, then dont write it in the first place. No doubt you will moderate this as is your want but then what is the point in having comments if others cant read em. grow up and get a real job. And if i want to leave it as ANON then that is my perogative to do that without some wit prattling on about it. Up yours

  2. As I think it was a comment I left, I can only apologise for any hassle it caused you, although I can't actually see the problem with it. In any case, each to their own.

  4. This is NOT your own website. Yes, its on the web, but it is owned by blogspot or blogger, who retain the right to go ahead and moderate it themselves if they like, so therefore they are more in control than you are.

If the host website were to go down, so would your blog. Hence NOT a website, but part of a larger website which requires registration and an agreement to abide by they're rules.

I personally have not yet started blogging, so i don't know if you are limited to "comment's on/off" or if you have other options apart from "google/blogger", "open ID", "Name/URL" and "Anonymous", but if you had built this website you would be able to have anything you wanted, including being able to turn off one of the four if you so choose.

Anonymity is another one of our rights that some people in the world don't think should continue to be used, but whatever happened to freedom of speech without the danger of repercussion if someone happens to disagree with your point of view?

Of course, there are limits to everything, and moderation is of course required, but if you don't like some of the things Anon's say then just delete them out of hand and remove them from your blog, as is your right.

and as for not liking receiving the associated e-mails, well, e-mail clients and web-based e-mail accounts nearly all have the option to set up incoming filters so you can just get anything your not interested in or don't want to read before deleting gets sent to the appropriate folder, saving alot of hassle and heartache.

  9. I think you would be fully justified in using that delete button this time Tony. I know a lot of bloggers these days will actually write out a small comment policy (usually saying what they will and will not put up with) then there is no point crying foul if a bad comment get's the axe.

Some of the best policies can be summed up in a few words. Such as the link that follows which is for Mr Anon.

  10. Oh boys this isn't the play ground, what I think Tony is trying to say if you are leaving impolite comments! let call them that for arguments sake? at least have the balls to leave a name, Anonymous is good if you are sharing with people, personnal and private information such as my post about my smears (see comments on Jade Goodie, you will see mine, very open and honest the name I left was enought for Tony to know but not others and if on a strange site I would be anon) but never attack people, if I really believe my convictions I don't care who knows) but anonymous is shitless, sorry but it is, it proves you are actually too scared to stand up to arguement, at least Tony puts himself out there and to be fair he doesn't seem to mind proper critism, he will fight his corner, and is actually quite open minded, he's like me! I think? he seems to like well formed arguement and arguing back but all the time thinking about the other person,as in that was actualy a good point, but abuse! just looses the arguement there is no remedy, so be anony if you have real stuff to worry about, but if you want to be abusive get some balls and do it in the open, I do! and I live in the land of GUNS! and Tony is open Minded, if a litle conservative in his ways! but very liberal in his mind, and very labour in his minimum wage.
hug and stuff love U H xx

  14. Anon 10:16 - Loser i may be but i do know the difference between a hosted blog and a real website, and if Tony hadnt made such a fluff up of this post then maybe he wouldnt have had the comments he had. I actually quite enjoy this blog and will carry on reading it whether you like it or not. Apologies for any offence meant Tony but you ask people to think, then don't think yourself, these post prove it
