Manston back in business

It is good to see that passenger flights have started again, and at least this time round it looks as though business will be at a sustainable level. The operators of Manston, Infratil clearly look more competent than their predecessors with their experience in running Glasgow Prestwick airport and others. It would also appear that they plan on being at Manston for the long-term and have realistic targets in mind.

The Eujet operation was clearly flawed from the start, operating at one time up to 27 different destinations, which for a start-up operation was clearly nonsense but great for those of us who used the airline. If Eujet had started with fewer services, it would have been able to market itself far more effectively and would probably still be in business now.

It is inevitable that Manston will be a success, because it is easy to get to from South London and the rest of the south-east because it avoids a lot of the congested motorway system that serve Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow.

  1. I remember when I was doing my studies at Thanet College (Intensive Business A Level) back in 2004, I predicted that Planestation would not have the financial support to keep itself afloat (the financial statements and accounts showed it). It was a very mixed reaction when the news of the redundancies came through.

Infratil looks to have a much stronger financial position and I see good things coming from it. There are concerns by local residents and those in Ramsgate about the noise, but I hope that Infratil will be a good neighbour, much like those living around the QEQM Hospital hope the Hospital can be a good neighbour to them with regards to parking and the construction of the new housing estate on the field next to the Pilgrim's Hospice. Time shall tell...

  2. As one who lives right under the flightpath I can say that the passenger flights are no trouble at all. The manky old 707 freighters are the trouble, I dread their return. Even the heavy lift jobs are less of a nuisance, being few and far between.
No complaints here though, we knew the airfield was there when we moved in twenty odd years ago and there were a darn sight more movements then!!
